Job description

Overview:

The Security and Emergency Response Training Center (SERTC) at MxV Rail is seeking a dynamic and motivated Lead Instructor who combines hazardous materials emergency response expertise, engaging classroom and field instruction, and an interest in curriculum design. The position leads the coordination and delivery of SERTC training, supports the systematic design and continuous improvement of FEMA/NDPC and contract-course curriculum, and helps expand SERTC's client base. Approximately 15-20% of the role is expected to support instructional design and curriculum work, with the balance focused primarily on instruction, course leadership, student experience, and business development. This position reports to the Executive Director - SERTC Business & Operations

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead classroom instruction, supervise field exercises, and coordinate all SERTC training programs in Pueblo and at remote locations.
  • Serve as SERTC's curriculum-design lead by collaborating with instructors and subject matter experts to analyze learner and performance needs and to design, develop, implement, and evaluate training using the ADDIE model or a comparable System Approach to Training.Support development, revision, recertification, documentation, and government approval of FEMA/NDPC-funded curriculum, including accessible course materials and Section 508 considerations, as applicable.
  • Translate technical subject matter into clear learning objectives, lesson plans, instructor guides, participant materials, assessments, scenarios, performance-support tools, and classroom, online, or blended learning experiences.
  • Review evaluation data and stakeholder feedback to recommend measurable improvements and maintain consistent, reliable learning experiences.
  • Coach instructors in facilitation, assessment, curriculum use, and instructional consistency; coordinate instructor and course-delivery needs.
  • Recruit new clients, identify training needs, promote SERTC capabilities, support proposals and course scoping, and help secure additional contract-course deliveries and repeat business.
  • Maintain client communications and coordinate contract-course preparation, scheduling, materials, staffing, delivery, and follow-up.
  • Provide logistical support for training activities by setting up and taking down training aids.
  • Promote safety and professional philosophy when working with internal and external customers and other employees.
  • Contribute positively to accomplishing the training team's overall objectives. Function as a team member.
  • Provide the SERTC leadership team with recommendations on training equipment, inventory, maintenance, and staffing needs.
  • Participate in professional focus groups, boards, and advisory committees as assigned.
  • Collaborate with MxV Rail's Operations team to support safety initiatives and ensure safe classroom instruction and field exercises.
  • Create and maintain positive working relationships and support the implementation of company initiatives aimed at developing an engaged and productive workforce.
  • Ability to remain committed to compliance with all internal policies and legal regulations in every area of the organization's daily activity, including fostering the development of short and long-term plans, policies, and guidelines.
  • Aptitude for forging and maintaining positive relationships and trust with key stakeholders, partners, and external authorities.
