Job Description
Lead the process of working with outside suppliers and manage personnel in the Manufacturing Engineering Function related to departmental activities and performance standards. Lead the activities for the manufacturing department including budgeting, resource planning, project management activities, and peer reviews for the purchase and implementation of integrated manufacturing assembly or fabrication processes in a manufacturing plant using Design for Assembly (DFA) & Design for manufacturability (DFM) methods. Identify opportunities for Continuous process improvement through deployment of 5S, Kaizen, Error Proofing and Value Stream Mapping to review manufacturing processes to eliminate waste, improve quality, and reduce production time and cost. Provide technical inputs and direction for Manufacturing, and lead change management initiatives. Use Manufacturing Health and Safety Fundamentals to champion and model proactive health and safety behaviors by identifying, reporting, and participating in actions to improve health and safety in order to build an interdependent culture and contribute to an injury-free workplace. Utilize industrial manufacturing methods and tools to manage equipment and capital procurement by selecting manufacturing equipment which meets company manufacturing specifications and meets the project or program needs. Review plan and design methods to improve efficiency in New Product Introduction and provide technical guidance to support capital acquisition, capacity planning and change control. Perform work measurement studies and create standard work methods for new and current production lines to establish costs, throughput times, capacity levels and manpower plans. Demonstrate capability in organizing and improving the steps of how workflow should occur by using the current documented Cummins Manufacturing Business Model Application and key practices used to drive improvements within the business to show a common framework for manufacturing functional excellence within the company. Provide manufacturing leadership and improvement focus in operations driving results, creating and monitoring measures, providing motivation, and setting expectations in safety, quality, delivery and cost. Utilize knowledge of Capital Project Management and Reporting to understand the requirements for purchasing tools and equipment according to developed production equipment specifications. Oversee manufacturing and industrial engineers and related departmental activities and provide technical guidance on issues and problems using Six Sigma Methodologies and 7 Step Problem Solving Technique.
Responsibilities
Positions require a Master's degree in Industrial, Systems or Manufacturing Engineering, or related field and 3 years of experience as an Industrial, Quality or Manufacturing Engineer, Black Belt or related position. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Systems or Manufacturing Engineering, or related field and 5 years of experience as an Industrial, Quality or Manufacturing Engineer, Black Belt or related position. Experience to include: Design for Assembly (DFA) & Design for manufacturability (DFM) methods; Continuous process improvement through deployment of 5S, Kaizen, Error Proofing and Value Stream Mapping; Manufacturing Health and Safety Fundamentals; Equipment and capital procurement; New Product Introduction; Work measurement studies; Capital Project Management and Reporting; Manufacturing Business Model Application; Six Sigma Methodologies and 7 Step Problem Solving Technique.
