Job description

Summary: The principal purpose of this position is to create trusted relationships with East African families to provide resource navigation and community education and outreach in Scott County with a focus on delivering safety and stability that improves lives. This is a language specific position - Bilingual in Somali is required. Position is full-time onsite at the Family Resource Centers in Shakopee and Savage.  Day hours into early evenings. 40 hours per week. Bachelor's degree preferred but experience in lieu of degree will be considered.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrate commitment to the agency’s mission statement and core values at all times. The mission statement is “360 Communities delivers safety and stability that improves lives.”
  2. Follow mandated reporting laws for child abuse and neglect.
  3. Work cooperatively and professionally by building trusted relationships with community partners, Scott County staff and families to successfully meet the needs of the families coming to the Scott County Family Resource Center (FRC) locations. 
  4. Assess holistic needs of families and provide resource navigation based on family identified needs through connecting to culturally-appropriate services on a referral basis (this may include, but is not limited to: housing resources, financial assistance resources, county social services, education, employment etc.). Facilitate access to services in support of individuals and families.
  5. Provide language translation/language access services to East African families accessing the FRC.
  6. Provide application assistance as requested by families. 
  7. Assist in filling out forms related to school, healthcare, job applications, housing, etc…
  8. Ensure seamless referral communication with other Scott County FRC programs 
  9. Identify service barriers and work to remove them through engagement of the community and linking to formal and informal supports. Help families in establishing social connections. 
  10. Collect data and maintain accurate records for statistical, evaluation and funding purposes. 
  11. Participate in the development, coordination, and implementation of community building events and outreach strategies that promote education and awareness of FRC programming.
  12. Attend and actively participate in 360 Communities team meetings, trainings and all-staff events.
  13. Perform other duties and assume other responsibilities as the need is apparent or as requested or delegated.

Qualifications 

Education and/or Experience:

  • 1-3 years related experience required. Bachelor’s degree preferred, but experience in lieu of degree will be considered
  • Bilingual in Somali required.
  • Applicants must have experience with socially, economically or culturally diverse populations.
