Job Summary
Responsible for providing direct tutorial, training, and instructional lab assistance and support to students, instructors, and laboratory personnel in the classroom and lab setting.
Essential Functions
Assist students with course and laboratory assignments in the classroom and in the open laboratory environment. Work with students individually or in small groups to demonstrate/review material covered in classroom lectures, procedures, and use of equipment and materials. Review completed student work assignments and suggest resource material for study.
Assist in the preparation of instructional materials to include setting up of lab equipment and supplies necessary to conduct laboratory assignments. Ensure laboratory equipment is maintained and lab is kept clean. Perform routine equipment, repairs, and maintenance. Develop and program computer tutorials. Facilitate computer testing, collects exams, and maintain grade data on students.
Monitor the activities of students and staff to insure a safe learning environment. Provide orientation to faculty, staff, and students in the use of the laboratory, equipment, and supplies.
Develop and maintain an inventory system for instructional materials and equipment, including computer hardware and software. Coordinate the distribution and retrieval of classroom resources in a self-paced learning environment. Maintain usage records and monitor material returned.
Issue tools, materials and equipment to students and instructors and coordinate distribution and retrieval of classroom and lab resources; assist with picking-up supplies such as fabric, tile (ceramic, stone, or glass), laminate, wood, paint or window samples, etc.; organize, classify, and file incoming samples; update, sort, and replace or donate outdated samples.
Administrative support duties include ordering supplies, procure quotes for equipment requests, follow-up on orders; receive, verify, and file supplies; prepare and process work orders and design requests; greet visitors, answer and screen telephone calls, provide program information to students.
Attend required workshops and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
1. Associate's Degree or equivalent and two (2) years or related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
NOTE: A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and reflect completed coursework and degrees conferred. The candidate must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application.
2. Ability to operate assigned equipment and troubleshoot and maintain lab equipment, including routine repair and service.
3. Experience assisting individuals in a lab setting and conducting orientations.
4. Effective interpersonal, communication, and multi-tasking skills.
5. Experience compiling data, generating reports, and developing and maintaining inventory records.
6. Experience working with the current Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).
Special Conditions:
1. The El Paso Community College is building a pool of Applicants for part-time staff positions. This pool will be accessed when an opening arises.
