Description
This position teaches culinary arts courses within RCBC's Culinary Arts program located on the Mt. Holly campus. Courses may include Cuisines and Cultures of Asia (CUL-123), Cuisines and Cultures of Europe (CUL-130), A la Carte (CUL-216), Food Purchasing and Menu Planning (CUL-211), or Cuisines and Cultures of the Americas (CUL-206).
Adjunct Faculty are instructional personnel whose services are contracted on a semester/term by semester/term basis. The workload is limited to two course sections per semester/term, unless three course sections are required to meet the needs of the students and/or College. Please note: course caps may be up to 40 students.
Adjunct Faculty will be paid $720 per credit hour for this position. Sr. Adjunct Faculty will be paid $770 per credit hour.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned courses following the course outline of record.
  • Develop a curriculum for classes.
  • Lead lectures and hands-on sessions.
  • Assign cooking projects and written assessments.
  • Grade students on their performance.
  • Advise students on their future careers.

OVERALL PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:
The primary and most important overall responsibility of all employees is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to our students and other members of the College community.
Minimum Qualifications
Education Required: Associate's degree in Culinary Arts is required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience Required:
  • Associate's degree and five (5) years' experience in the industry, along with an ACF certification, or Bachelor's degree and four (4) years' experience in the industry, in the appropriate specialization, a related field, or their equivalent as demonstrated by expertise, licensure, or certification.
  • Minimum of 3 years in upscale formal dining restaurant operations.
  • Current ServSafe certification required.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduates of all abilities.

Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /Other Requirements:
  • Extensive knowledge of food and beverage service is required including French, Russian and American styles.
  • Preferred: In depth knowledge of European and Asian Cuisines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong technology skills including usage of email, student information system, and learning management system.
  • Organizational, record-keeping, and interpersonal skills.

Collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college.

Technology Tools, Blackboard LMS, and Webex Videoconferencing
In order to enable Adjunct Faculty to be effective and to meet the requirements associated with relevant teaching conditions, RCBC has outlined 1) appropriate Technology Tools, 2) a minimum level of proficiency with the Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS) and remote delivery, and 3) Webex Videoconferencing resources.
1) Technology Tools
Adjunct Faculty should have access to a computer less than 6 years old and equipped with a webcam and microphone, as well as reliable high-speed internet service.
2) Blackboard LMS
Adjunct Faculty must participate in Blackboard training with a verified level of proficiency in the following two self-paced courses A) 'Getting Started with Blackboard Learn' and B) 'Learn Teaching Essentials for Original'.
3) Webex Videoconferencing
Webex is RCBC's accepted videoconferencing platform and allows for real-time instructor-student interactions and breakout sessions, for example. RCBC has created two interactive workshops, a maximum of one-and-a-half hours long, to address topics of interest to both beginner and advanced users. Recorded sessions will be continuously available for faculty viewing.
Residency Requirement: Rowan College of Burlington County requires applicants to reside in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, or Delaware in order to be considered for employment as an Adjunct.
