Job description

Responsibilities include performing all types of maintenance and repair, minor construction, inspections, preventive maintenance, cleaning of facilities, grounds and bus stops. This position will work in a variety of environmental conditions (i.e., heat, cold, rain, etc.). This position is only routinely supervised. Requires advanced skills and independent judgement in performing the duties. Requires the flexibility with work schedule after hours and to be available in emergency situations.


Requirements:

Sustained physical endurance to lift, push and pull up to 75 lbs., continuously stand, work with arms extended overhead, climb, bend and squat. A Physical Examination and a Functional Capacity Exam is required (paid by CTA).


Qualifications:

  • Requires minimum of one (1) year of experience with general maintenance repairs.
  • Must be proficient in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, outside grounds maintenance, and have knowledge of chemicals, paints, lubricants, etc.
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and follow directions and instructions, department policies and procedures, as well as EPA and OSHA guidelines. Requires the ability to read manuals and directions as needed to perform all tasks.
  • Must have a valid MS Driver License with a good driving record.
  • Must pass the company Drug and Alcohol screening test, and abide by all drug free workplace policies.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.


Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Perform maintenance and repair on an as needed basis to all CTA facilities and Bus Stops.
  • Investigate complaints of vandalism and need of repair or maintenance to items mentioned above. Complete documentation on all tasks performed.
  • Perform janitorial services at all CTA Bus Facilities (i.e., maintains cleanliness of all public CTA restrooms).
  • Assist Marketing Department in the maintenance of advertising materials for such duties as installation and removal of signs at Bus Stops.
  • Oversee some contract work that is performed at the request of CTA.
