Job Summary
The Commercial HVAC Sheet Metal Apprentice supports the installation of HVAC duct systems on active commercial construction projects while learning industry standards, safety practices, and trade fundamentals.
This role is designed for individuals early in their HVAC career who are motivated to learn, follow direction, and grow into a skilled journeyman through field experience and mentorship from senior mechanics and foremen.
Key Responsibilities
โ€ข Learn and comply with OSHA, CT Mechanical, and jobsite safety rules at all times.
โ€ข Learn and apply SMACNA standards, Florida Building Code requirements, and company best practices.
โ€ข Assist with receiving, staging, and properly storing materials on jobsites.
โ€ข Develop the ability to read and interpret construction documents including blueprints, specifications, submittals, and material lists.
โ€ข Support layout and coordination of HVAC systems with other trades under supervision.
โ€ข Assist with setting hangers, strap, trapeze supports, roof curbs, and wall sleeves.
โ€ข Learn proper installation of duct accessories such as VAVs, fire dampers, louvers, control dampers, and branch take-offs.
โ€ข Assist in building, assembling, hanging, and sealing duct systems.
โ€ข Prepare duct systems for inspections and pressure testing with guidance from leadership.
โ€ข Properly use and maintain personal hand tools and battery-powered drills related to the HVAC trade.
โ€ข Safely use and care for company-provided equipment including ladders, gang boxes, and power tools.
โ€ข Ask questions, follow instructions, and proactively contribute to team success.
Required Qualifications
โ€ข High school diploma or equivalent required.
โ€ข OSHA 10 certification required or willingness to obtain.
โ€ข EPA certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
โ€ข Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
โ€ข Punctual, dependable, and ready to work each day.
โ€ข Strong interest in learning commercial HVAC sheet metal installation.
โ€ข Prior construction or mechanical experience preferred but not required.
