Job description

Social Worker II

The Clinical Social Worker II provides comprehensive medical social work services focused on addressing the psychosocial needs of patients and caregivers. Responsibilities include conducting psychosocial assessments, providing supportive counseling and therapeutic interventions, offering education and community resource information, and participating in multidisciplinary treatment planning and care delivery.

The role may include clinical supervision of MSWs and BSW/MSW students, facilitation of support groups, emergency and crisis response, and participation in an on-call rotation. The CSW II also contributes to multidisciplinary program development and evaluation, performance improvement initiatives, education and training programs, policy development, research, and program development.

The CSW II is expected to promote the optimal delivery of psychosocial care through direct practice, committee participation, and leadership of performance improvement efforts. The position remains an active member of the Department of Supportive Care and requires occasional attendance at the Duarte campus for staff meetings, skills development, and training.

As a successful candidate, you will: 

  • Provides skilled psychosocial support and crisis management for patients throughout the continuum of care:  diagnosis, living with cancer, recurrence, end-of-life, and survivorship. 

  • Respectful understanding of cultural differences and diversity.

  • Acts as an effective liaison for appropriate referrals to other services within the Department of Supportive Care Medicine, including:  psychiatry; psychology; supportive and palliative care; pain management; spiritual care; patient navigation; and patient, family & community education.

  • Collaborates with and promotes teamwork among all members of the healthcare team; co-facilitates programs (e.g., support groups, work teams, subcommittees). Openly expresses ideas for new programs or enhancements to current programs/services.

  • Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and serves on institutional committees as appointed.

  • Demonstrates strong potential for leadership and proactively seeks out opportunities for growth and development.

  • Actively pursues licensure requirements and educational opportunities for further development of clinical skills and professional growth including advanced credentials. 

  • Participates in recruitment and interviewing of social work candidates.

  • Acts as an ambassador to the profession by effectively articulating the role and expertise of a CSW and by actively participating in community and professional organizations.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Your qualifications should include: 

  • Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE- Accredited School of Social Work 

  • Two years medical social work

  • One-year oncology social work (Preferred)     

  • Out of state Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Active registration as an Associate Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences

  • CSW II must pass the LCSW exam and become a LCSW in the state of California within one year or be demoted to CSW I

  • For pediatric service, CCS Panel provider or complete application within 60 days of hire
