CST Surgical Techs, or Certified Surgical Technologists, are allied health professionals who assist surgeons, nurses, and other surgical team members in operating rooms. Their duties include preparing and sterilizing instruments, ensuring a sterile environment, passing instruments during surgeries, and helping with patient care before and after procedures. CSTs play a critical role in maintaining the safety and efficiency of surgical operations. To become a CST, individuals must complete an accredited surgical technology program and pass a national certification exam.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CST surgical tech, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CST Surgical Tech, you need a solid understanding of surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and anatomy, typically supported by a surgical technology diploma or associate degree and the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential. Familiarity with surgical instruments, operating room technology, and electronic health record systems is essential. Attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication are vital soft skills for ensuring patient safety and smooth surgical operations. These competencies are crucial for maintaining a sterile environment, supporting surgeons efficiently, and delivering optimal patient care during procedures.

What are some common challenges a CST surgical tech may face during surgeries, and how are they typically addressed?
