Job description

The Surgical Technologist II assists the team of medical professional providing surgical care to patients under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) by verifying health data and observing the patient. Working under general supervision, this role performs first and second scrub duties and table setup for more advanced procedures.
Essential Job Function
  • Ensures that sterile equipment is not brought in contact with unsterile items or surfaces so that asepsis is maintained.
  • Observes and reports on patient health changes in order to adapt the care plan as necessary.
  • Completes the basic scrub duties and table set-ups for procedures to provide a sterile and prepared environment for surgery.
  • Gathers supplies and checks equipment to ensure that the necessary materials are prepared for surgery.
  • Verifies health status data for patients with the circulating nurse in order to keep a detailed record of a patient's condition.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent; Graduate of a Surgical Technology accredited through ARC/STSA or equivalent military training with surgical tech experience

Experience
  • Required: 1 year surgical tech experience

Licensure/Certification/Listing
  • Required: BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare ProviderCertified Surgical Technologist (CST). Surgical Technologists hired prior to 12/31/2017 will have the certification requirement waived. If the CST credential was held on 12/31/17, credential must be maintained without lapse.
