DIS currently holds a three-year contract with Jonesboro Public Schools, creating an ongoing need for qualified Commissioned School Security Officers.

Position Overview

As an On-Call Commissioned School Security Officer (CSSO), you will provide armed security coverage whenever full-time officers are unavailable and support athletic events and other school-sponsored activities.

This position offers flexible scheduling with assignments provided as operational needs arise.

Please note: This is an on-call position with no guaranteed minimum hours.

    Key Responsibilities

    Campus Coverage
  • Cover assignments when fulltime CSSOs are absent.
  • Maintain a highly visible armed security presence.
  • Monitor building access and visitor procedures.
  • Deter and respond to security threats.
  • Assist during medical emergencies and critical incidents.
  • Support lockdowns, evacuations, and emergency drills.
  • Build positive relationships with students, faculty, and administrators.
  • Athletic & School Events
  • Provide armed security during athletic competitions and school events.
  • Monitor entrances, parking areas, and spectator sections.
  • Respond to disturbances and unauthorized persons.
  • Coordinate with school personnel and Jonesboro Police Department.
  • Support safe event entry and exit procedures.
  • Administrative Responsibilities
  • Complete accurate incident reports.
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency responders.
  • Follow all DIS policies, Act 393 standards, and district procedures.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Applicants must:
  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Hold a current Arkansas CSSO License or be eligible to obtain one before assignment.
  • Pass state and federal fingerprintbased background checks.
  • Successfully complete a psychological evaluation.
  • Successfully complete a preemployment drug screening.
  • Successfully complete the DIS firearms qualification course.
  • Possess a valid Arkansas driver's license.
  • Have reliable transportation.
  • Be physically capable of responding to emergencies and standing or walking for extended periods.
  • Be able to quickly adapt to unfamiliar school campuses.
