Position Overview and Responsibilities:

Resident Park Manager III-SES (37000538)

A management opportunity is available for an energetic, hardworking, park service professional to fill a Resident Park Manager position at Grayton Beach State Park. This position will lead, assist, oversee, and mentor the staff at both Grayton Beach and Deer Lake State Parks. The staff at both parks consist of a 1 - Resident Assistant Park Manager, 1 - Administrative Assistant, 1 - Park Services Specialist, 1 - Maintenance Mechanic, 5 - Park Rangers, and OPS Support Staff.  

Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.

ADMINISTRATION - Implements and enforces all laws, rules, operating policies, leases, agreements, and permits pertaining to this area. Provides for employee selection training, supervision, and discipline. Administers the terms of the collective bargaining agreement and maintains good employee relations. Prepares multi-fund budget requests, provides for effective expenditure of appropriations, supervises the collection of fees, is responsible for all facility and equipment inventories, and implements established policies for fiscal control and accountability. Ensures preparation and implementation of work schedules and assignments for the staff. Manages concession and service contracts. Assists in development and management of grants. Sets realistic park goals and schedules and coordinates effectively to achieve.

VISITOR SERVICES - Implements and supervises interpretive programs. Meets the public, interprets the area's resources, facilities, and services; resolves visitor complaints; and provides for good public relations. Works cooperatively with a variety of governmental agencies, media groups, Citizens Support Organizations (CSO), and other community service groups. Oversee and direct fund-raising efforts on behalf of the park and in cooperation with the park CSO. This will include the development of grant applications, fund proposals and development activities with the park CSO. In addition to paid staff, ensures that the park is staffed to optimum levels through the use of contract providers and park volunteers. Actively participates in all park CSO meetings and functions and ensures that the CSO is kept informed about all park issues and developments on an ongoing basis. RESOURCE MANAGEMENT - Implements and guides the resource management plan for park units including ecological burning, water manipulation, native species propagation, erosion control, and exotic plant and animal removal. Operate various vehicles and equipment to assess resource management needs and oversee ecological burns. Ensures that the parks' natural and cultural resources are managed to ensure the restoration and preservation of the resources in the park.

MAINTENANCE - Identifies and plans maintenance needs and provides management of the staff to maintain the facilities and support equipment for efficient operation of park units. Operates various vehicles between areas to assess maintenance needs and oversee operations. Ensures that the parks' facilities and grounds are maintained to a high level of public expectations.

PROTECTION - Ensures park rules are enforced pertaining to all natural, historical and archaeological facilities and resources and use thereof, for the enjoyment of the visitor.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

• natural resource management practices to include appropriate methods for control of invasive plants and animals
• Florida Park Service Operations Manual
• preventative and corrective maintenance necessary to meet FPS standards
• appropriate cultural resource management practices

 Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Driver's License
• Completion of Ranger Academy
• successfully complete a background and fingerprint check

Position of Special Trust Requirement:

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening will be required for this position.

Grayton Beach State Park (GBSP) is located in Santa Rosa Beach, in the community of Grayton Beach on Scenic 30A. This Recreation Area manages 2000 acres of land on the Gulf of America. There are 61 campsites with electric, water, and sewer plus 15 duplex cabins. The Park has a 1-mile dune nature trail and a 4 mile hiking/biking forest trail. The Park provides 3 miles of white quartz-sand beaches, a home to threatened-endangered sea turtles, shorebirds, and dune systems. There will also be opportunities for resource management and wildlife monitoring.

Deer Lake State Park (DLSP) is located in Santa Rosa Beach on Scenic 30A. Deer Lake manages 1,994.77 acres of land on the Gulf of America. The park provides a half mile of sugar-sand beach perfect for swimming, sunning, and building sandcastles. The park offers a 1.5-mile nature trail located on the north side of Scenic 30A.
