Job description

ALCOSAN is committed to providing wastewater treatment services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. From our Board of Directors to our Executive Director, leadership and staff; we work to enhance the community's quality of life and safety by protecting our rivers and streams. After 60 years of continued design, construction and operations of the sewer system and treatment plant, we now have 400 plus employees serving residential, commercial and industrial customers in 83 communities throughout Allegheny County.
Position Summary
The Security Guard is responsible for providing physical security measures to protect organizational assets, employees, visitors, contractors, and facilities.
Job Duties

  • Provides physical security presence at assigned posts to include plant entrance gatehouse, Operations & Maintenance building, Customer Service & Billing building, and a roving utility officer.
  • Maintains effective access control procedures.
  • Monitors surveillance cameras.
  • Greets visitors, answer telephones, monitor parking lots, monitor employee entrances/exits, and maintain radio communication.
  • Conducts lock-up rounds to secure doors and gates of entrances and exits to all buildings.
  • Answers alarms and investigate disturbances.
  • Initiates Incident reports as needed.
  • Monitors, records, and authorizes entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons.
  • Writes reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
  • Conducts security rounds with Guard 1 Plus rounding system; number of rounds per shift are detailed in the Memorandum outlining the guard rounding procedures.
  • Conducts weekly tests of the emergency evacuation alarm system.
  • Conducts monthly fire alarm tests.
  • Conducts weekly elevator phone inspections.
  • Provides transportation as needed for special events, meetings, testing, medical treatment, etc.
  • Directs traffic to maintain an efficient flow pattern throughout plant.
  • Performs vehicle patrols which include the main plant campus, storage warehouse, Vehicle Maintenance Garage, and CS & B building.
  • Completes daily journals, incident reports and other associated paper work.
  • Responds to emergencies and call 911 for additional assistance as needed.
  • Answers and provides notification of Pennsylvania One Call calls to appropriate personnel.
  • Makes notification of CSO conditions to appropriate personnel; this includes, logging information into the Security Journal.
Job Duties (cont.) Knowledge / Abilities
  • Perform multiple security rounds during assigned shift.
  • Input data, in electronic form, via the computer.
  • Visually monitor surveillance camera(s) and communicate issues / concerns to the Manager of Security.
  • Operate various security vehicles during tour of duty.
Minimum Education Level Required High School Graduate or GED Minimum Experience Required None Required Certifications / Licenses CPR, AED, First Aid, and OC Spray Certifications. Act 235 Certification (Lead Officer ONLY). Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License. Must have absence of a criminal record.
