THE ROLE

Located in Rochester, NY and founded in 1916, G&H | GS Optics specializes in the custom design and manufacture of precision polymer optics for use in the biomedical, healthcare diagnostics, machine vision and analytical instrument markets, as well as military and civilian night-vision and visible-range sighting applications. In addition to the highly automated injection molding process, it has well established in-house capabilities to provide custom designed diamond turned and injection molded prototypes, thin film anti reflective and reflective coatings and integrated optical assembly solutions.


The Quality Technician is responsible for providing support and qualifying in-process production parts for manufacture following existing test protocols and procedures. This role works closely with production process technicians to start up and maintain a process for producing parts with consistent and acceptable yields. Required to perform process compliance audits to ensure conformance to company procedures.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform dimensional measurements with manual/hand gauges (calipers, micrometers, etc) and computer-controlled gauges (Mitutoyo touch CMM, Zeiss scanning CMM, OGP multisensory CMM, Zeiss profilometer)
  • Perform optical non-contact inspection using interferometer and optical bench metrology methods
  • Perform visual inspection of optical parts per MIL PRF-13830B to identify nonconformance according to documented parameters
  • Notify production personnel of inspection results
  • Identify and report systematic and preventable nonconformance occurrences to maximize yields
  • Perform final inspection requirements both in-process (where applicable) and as a standalone operation
  • Reject defective product and document through Discrepant Material Report (DMR) process
  • Document inspection results electronically into Excel based inspection files
  • Summarize daily activities and inspection statis via email or daily journal
  • Apply flash coating to sample parts using a vacuum coating chamber
  • Work with production to actively and urgently find continuous improvement opportunities and work as a team to suggest machine and process changes
  • Perform process compliance audits

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience
  • Associates degree in a technical discipline preferred
  • Optical manufacturing and/or inspection
  • Injection molding
  • Medical device manufacture or inspection in an FDA registered and/or ISO 13485 certified facility
  • Six Sigma and/or lean manufacturing
  • Optical inspection equipment (interferometer, OGP Smart Scope)
  • Mechanical measurement equipment (calibers, CMM, profilometer, etc)
