Description:

The Cryogenic Driver – Level 1 is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant transportation and delivery of cryogenic liquids—including Liquid Nitrogen (LIN), Liquid Oxygen (LOX), and Liquid Argon (LAR)—to customer sites throughout the United States. This position requires a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with HazMat and Tanker endorsements, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to operate and maintain specialized cryogenic transport equipment in accordance with DOT, FMCSA, and CGA standards.

This is a travel-intensive role with typical dispatch rotations typically three (3) consecutive weeks on the road followed by one (1) week of scheduled home time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely operate cryogenic tankers and cargo tanks (CGA-341) in compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and company safety policies.
  • Perform loading, unloading, and transfer operations of LIN, LOX, and LAR at production plants, depots, and customer facilities.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and maintain required driver logs, bills of lading, and delivery documentation.
  • Maintain situational awareness during transfer operations to prevent overfills, cross-connections, and product contamination.
  • Utilize appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow all applicable CGA safety procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, plant operators, and customers to ensure delivery accuracy and schedule adherence.
  • Assist in basic trailer and equipment troubleshooting, including valves, fittings, and vacuum system awareness.
  • Participate in training programs designed to increase cryogenic handling proficiency and promote career progression.
  • Adhere to all Company, DOT, OSHA, and FMCSA regulations, including those governing driver rest periods and hours of service.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor while representing the Company on customer sites and public roadways.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • CDL Class A with current HazMat (H) and Tanker (N) endorsements.
  • 0–2 years of cryogenic or bulk-liquid experience (LIN/LOX/LAR).
  • Demonstrated understanding of cryogenic liquid safety, basic thermodynamics, and product characteristics preferred.
  • Ability to travel extensively (typically 3 weeks away from home).
  • Clean driving record with no major violations or preventable accidents within the last 3 years.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and perform duties in varying environmental conditions.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to learn specialized cryogenic equipment.
  • Must pass DOT physical, drug screen, and background check.
  • Work Schedule and Travel Requirements
  • Typically 3 weeks on / 1 week off, with assignments and routing determined by dispatch and customer demand.
  • Expected to operate across multiple states, including overnight travel and extended stays away from domicile.
  • May be required to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays consistent with customer needs and load scheduling.
