This can include roles in medical cryotherapy, cryogenic engineering, or handling liquid gases like nitrogen and oxygen in industrial settings. Responsibilities vary but often include operating specialized equipment, ensuring safety protocols, and maintaining cryogenic systems.

What does a cryo do?

As a Cryo technician or specialist, your daily tasks often include monitoring and refilling cryogenic storage tanks, maintaining precise temperature records, and ensuring all samples are safely and accurately logged. You may be responsible for troubleshooting equipment issues, adhering to stringent safety guidelines, and collaborating with researchers, laboratory staff, or medical professionals to coordinate sample transfers. Often, you'll also conduct regular maintenance and inspections of storage systems to avoid contamination or equipment failures. This role requires meticulous recordkeeping and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team within clinical, research, or industrial environments.

To thrive as a Cryo technician or specialist, you need a solid understanding of cryogenic systems, laboratory protocols, and relevant safety standards, typically requiring a technical diploma or science degree. Familiarity with cryogenic equipment, such as liquid nitrogen storage tanks and temperature monitoring systems, along with certifications like HAZMAT or OSHA training, is often necessary.
