Job description

Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Operator with strong experience in excavator, front-end loader, and crushing operations in a landscape rock quarry environment located in Mayer, AZ. This role requires advanced equipment proficiency, mechanical aptitude, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to work in a fast-paced production setting.


Operators will work with Caterpillar excavators (CAT 320 through CAT 349 class, including hammer and bucket work) and Caterpillar wheel loaders (CAT 980 and CAT 982 class) to support quarry production, material movement, and crushing operations.


A key requirement for this role is hands-on crushing experience, including supporting crusher feed operations, maintaining material flow, and assisting with basic crusher-related troubleshooting and downtime reduction.


This is a hands-on, team-oriented position. Operators must be willing to step outside the cab and actively support the crew. Tasks may include shoveling material, unclogging crushers, assisting with screen changes, and other general plant support duties. Flexibility and teamwork are essential to success.


This role also requires strong awareness of dust control practices, including proper water application, material handling techniques, and maintaining safe visibility and environmental conditions throughout quarry operations. 


In addition to equipment operation, this role includes preventive maintenance, basic mechanical troubleshooting, safety leadership, and maintaining accurate digital timekeeping and reporting through a mobile app system.

Requirements

Heavy Equipment & Crushing Experience

  • Must have prior crushing plant experience (required) 
  • Proficient in operating CAT excavators (320-349 class) with bucket and hydraulic hammer attachments 
  • Proficient in operating CAT wheel loaders (980-982 class) 
  • Experience supporting crusher feed operations and material flow management 
  • Ability to work around crushers, screens, conveyors, and aggregate processing equipment 
  • Ability to adapt between multiple machines based on production needs 
  • Experience training or mentoring other operators is a plus 
Maintenance & Mechanical Ability
  • Perform preventative maintenance on heavy equipment 
  • Identify and troubleshoot minor mechanical issues 
  • Perform basic mechanical tasks such as: 
    • Bearing changes 
    • Belt splicing 
    • Shaft replacements 
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and report findings 
  • Work closely with mechanics to minimize downtime 
Safety, Dust Control & Production
  • Maintain a strong commitment to MSHA and company safety standards 
  • Promote a zero-incident safety culture 
  • Maintain dust control awareness and compliance, including proper material handling and water/dust suppression practices 
  • Support production goals and operational efficiency 
  • Identify and communicate safety, environmental, or equipment concerns promptly
Communication & Teamwork
  • Communicate effectively using two-way radios with supervisors, operators, and maintenance staff 
  • Respond promptly to radio calls and production instructions 
  • Collaborate with team members to resolve operational challenges 
  • Maintain accurate equipment logs and maintenance documentation 
  • Willingness to assist with non-equipment operational tasks as needed
Technology Requirement
  • Must be comfortable using mobile devices and applications 
  • Required to maintain daily timesheet records using a mobile app system 
  • Basic digital literacy for time tracking and reporting is required
