Job description

Position: Grades 78 Cross Country Coach/Varsity Assistant Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director and Building Administration
Season: Fall Athletic Season

Position Summary

Hillsdale Local Schools is seeking a positive, motivated, and student-centered individual to serve as the Grades 78 Cross Country Coach and assist with the Varsity Cross Country Program. The coach will be responsible for developing student-athletes' running skills, conditioning, teamwork, sportsmanship, and understanding of the sport while supporting the overall goals and expectations of the Hillsdale Cross Country Program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and supervise practices.
  • Provide appropriate instruction in running technique, conditioning, race strategy, and injury prevention.
  • Attend and coach all scheduled middle school cross country meets.
  • Assist the Varsity Cross Country Coach with practices, meets, and other program needs as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with the varsity coaching staff to build a consistent and successful cross country program across grade levels.
  • Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, academic success, and positive character.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision of student-athletes at practices, meets, and team activities.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with student-athletes, parents, coaches, the Athletic Director, and administration.
  • Follow all Hillsdale Local Schools policies, athletic department expectations, and applicable OHSAA rules and regulations.
  • Ensure the health and safety of student-athletes and follow established emergency and injury procedures.
  • Maintain required records, equipment, uniforms, and other program materials as assigned.
  • Perform other coaching-related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or administration.

Qualifications

  • Previous cross country, distance running, or coaching experience preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with students in grades 712 and collaborate with the varsity coaching staff.
  • Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to developing student-athletes academically, athletically, and personally.
  • Must obtain and maintain all required coaching certifications and training.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid Ohio Pupil-Activity Permit.
  • Must meet all district, state, and OHSAA requirements for interscholastic coaches.
