Job description

Position Overview

Assistant Professor โ€œApplied Crop Scienceโ€ position in the Department of Agricultural Sciences at Texas State University. This fullโ€‘time, 9โ€‘month faculty appointment begins in fall 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Crop Science/Horticulture; mentor and advise students, supervising M.S. research and serving on thesis committees; develop new courses and contribute to curriculum development.
  • Research: Establish and maintain a strong, externally funded research program in production agriculture, addressing abiotic and biotic stress in food crop production; collaborate with faculty, industry, and external partners; disseminate results through peerโ€‘reviewed publications and conferences.
  • Service: Participate in service at departmental, college, and university levels, including committee work and student recruitment; engage in professional service within the Crop Science community; chair studentโ€‘oriented initiatives as appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Agronomy, Crop Physiology, Horticultural Science, Plant Breeding, or a closely related field.
  • Proven ability as an effective instructor of record at undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Experience mentoring and advising students, including supervising M.S. research and serving on thesis committees.
  • Potential to develop a strong, externally funded research program.
  • Record of or potential for publication in peerโ€‘reviewed journals.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A track record of securing research funding.
  • Previous research experience in abiotic and biotic stress of crop agriculture.
  • Experience in curriculum development or new course development.
  • Professional experience in crop science industry or related agricultural sectors (including outreach and international agriculture).
