Crisis Intervention Specialist

Crisis Response Team (CRT)

At Father Joeโ€™s Villages, we prioritize safety, wellness, and community for clients experiencing homelessness and crisis situations. Our Crisis Response Team supports individuals by providing immediate interventions, facilitating access to services, and connecting clients to resources that stabilize and protect their wellbeing.

The Role

As a Crisis Intervention Specialist, you will respond to crisis calls, perform wellness checks, and provide supportive interventions to clients in collaboration with internal teams and external partners. You will be a visible resource in the community, building trust with clients while ensuring safety and appropriate follow-up.

This role is ideal for someone who is empathetic, calm under pressure, and motivated to help individuals in vulnerable situations navigate immediate challenges.

Your Role in Crisis Response and Client Support

  • Conduct wellness checks in client units or program areas, collaborating with Property Management, Security, or other staff as needed.
  • Assess client needs, behavioral risks, and immediate concerns, providing guidance or referrals to appropriate internal or external resources.
  • Serve as a visible, approachable resource for clients in residential and program settings.
  • Build positive relationships with clients to foster trust, strengthen the community, and support engagement in program services.
  • Communicate concerns, observations, and risk factors to program leadership promptly and clearly.
  • Uphold the organizationโ€™s CREED values: Compassion, Respect, Empathy, Empowerment, Dignity while supporting clients in crisis.
  • Participate in Multidisciplinary Approach to Services (MAS) meetings to coordinate interventions and care.
  • Complete all assigned trainings, policies, and documentation accurately and on time.
  • Assist in onboarding new staff by sharing knowledge and modeling program expectations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations and client safety.

Desirable Candidate Profile

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience providing direct support to underserved populations in social services, residential, or community-based settings.
  • Knowledge of crisis management, behavioral support, conflict resolution, and risk assessment.
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to safely drive an agency vehicle if needed.
  • Experience in peer support, security, or behavioral health roles is a plus.

Key Competencies and Experience

  • Familiarity with crisis intervention methods, risk assessment, and referral procedures in social service settings.
  • Basic understanding of behavioral health issues and strategies for de-escalation and safety.
  • Ability to accurately document client interactions and interventions in compliance with organizational policies.
  • Respond calmly, professionally, and effectively in crisis situations.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple client needs and tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams, external agencies, and multidisciplinary staff.
  • Professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment when handling sensitive information or high-stakes situations.
  • Ability to build rapport and trust with diverse clients and community members.
  • Uphold organizational values and model positive behaviors in all interactions.


Work Schedule

Full-time position, Monday through Friday, with flexibility to respond to crisis events. Evening or weekend coverage may occasionally be required. Work includes field visits and on-site support in residential or program settings.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay for this position is based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity. The anticipated pay range is $20.27 โ€“ $23.31 per hour.
