Job Summary:
Do you have a passion for food? Are you a responsible, energetic, and motivated individual who thrives on dealing with a variety of situations and doing what it takes to get the job done? If so, then Kalamazoo Valley Community College may have the ideal job opportunity for you.
We are looking for passionate and motivated individuals to serve as Culinary Lab Assistants. These positions support culinary instructors, staff, and students with demonstrations and hands-on activities in the classrooms and kitchens.
Examples of typical duties include:
  • Opening the kitchen prior to class.
  • Supporting the student-run cafe; including preparation of food and cashiering.
  • Assisting in the upkeep and sanitation practices of all areas of the Culinary and Allied Health building.
  • Assisting in receiving, storing, and the distribution of all food and supplies.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Knowledge of proper food handling practices is required.
  • Candidates must be motivated and reliable.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
  • Previous coursework, or industry experience, in culinary arts is preferred.
  • Servsafe Manager® certification is preferred.

Physical Demands:
  • Lifting, bending, stooping, and standing required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to follow and complete verbal and written duties as assigned.
  • Must have manual dexterity; the sufficient fine motor skills to manipulate objects and people safely.
  • Ability to work in a high traffic, noisy, indoor environment.

Work Hours:
Up to 29 hours per week, flexible schedule available Monday - Friday, occasional weekends may be available.
