California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in the Inland Empire region of Southern California. Opened in 1965 and set at the foothills of the beautiful San Bernardino mountains, the university serves approximately 19,000 students. CSUSB is a federally recognized minority-serving and Hispanic-serving institution that reflects the dynamic diversity of the region and has the most diverse student population of any university in the Inland Empire: 74 percent of its students are members of underrepresented groups, 80 percent are first-generation, and 56 percent are Pell eligible. JOB SUMMARY
TYPICAL ACTIVITIES
- Teach courses primarily in person and possibly online at the San Bernardino (and possibly Palm Desert) campuses, as assigned.
- Maintain an active and productive research agenda.
- Mentor and supervise graduate student research.
- Provide service to the School, University, and profession by participation in committees and events.
- Engage with campus and community partners to support student learning, professional practice, and community well-being.
Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in hand by time of appointment. PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Social Ecology, Geography, Data Science or closely related field with a focus on crime analysis/crime science, environmental/spatial criminology and/or geospatial intelligence, quantitative methods.
Ability to teach multiple courses across the following areas:
- Intelligence & Crime Analysis (data management, analytical techniques, applied tools)
- Advanced Intelligence & Crime Analysis (e.g., forecasting, crime series investigation)
- Social Network Analysis
- Crime Pattern Detection (GIS, spatial-temporal analysis, crime forecasting)
- Crime in Public Spaces (environmental criminology, field-based or applied research)
- Statistics (undergraduate and graduate levels)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Evidence of training, teaching or research with social network analysis.
- Evidence of scholarly research in crime analysis and intelligence analysis, environmental or spatial criminology, data-driven or evidence-based approaches to crime prevention.
- Applied experience with law enforcement, crime analysis units, or public policy organizations.
- A clear alignment with data-driven, practice-oriented criminal justice education.
- Interest in obtaining and conducting grant funded research.
Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation is valued.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
