Description
SUMMARY
The Work Crew Coordinator supervises a crew of sentenced offenders, either released from the County jail or assigned to the work crew by the community services staff. Work crews consist of adult and juvenile offenders and provide uncompensated labor to the community. The coordinator transports adult and juvenile offenders to the assigned job sites, and instructs and oversees their work on a daily basis. Work typically includes landscape maintenance, construction, equipment moving, and other physical labor.
Typical Daily Tasks
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Illustrative Only. Any single position in the classification will not necessarily involve all of the listed duties below and other positions will involve duties which are not listed. These duties represent the essential functions needed of persons in this classification.)
1. Assess work project requests. Estimate equipment, materials and time required to complete individual projects. Determine appropriate work projects for crew workers considering physical limitations and available resources.
2. Instruct workers in the proper work procedures and use of tools and equipment. Enforce safety procedures and work crew program rules.
3. Make recommendations regarding worker discipline and performance evaluations.
4. Transport workers, supplies and equipment to and from work sites.
5. Assist injured workers in obtaining medical attention.
6. Perform and/or demonstrate grounds-keeping, landscaping, construction, maintenance, and other functions as necessary to crew members.
7. Perform and/or supervise general maintenance on all tools and equipment.
8. Operate equipment (landscaping, carpenter, painting, and power tools).
9. Obtain breath and urinalysis samples from offenders for detection of alcohol or illicit drug use.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires general knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in construction and landscape maintenance techniques; knowledge of applicable safety hazards and practices. Ability to operate a variety of tools and shop equipment.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Possession of or ability to obtain valid Oregon Driver's License; possess safe driving record; possession of or ability to obtain First Aid/CPR Certification.
