CAN Capital is looking for a Business Underwriter to join our team!


CAN Capital is a market leader in small business finance with over $7B in small business fundings to over 81,000 businesses. Our Business Underwriters are critical to our business. They help drive company strategy and profitability by making smart merchant credit decisions and mitigating risk while working effectively with cross-functional teams.


Responsibilities:


•Uses sound judgment; follows CAN Capital guidelines, policies, and procedures; takes proactive steps to complete tasks and to resolve issues and concerns

•Consistently and efficiently works pipeline of loans while mitigating risk and potential losses

•Diligently reviews each funding package to identify a concrete understanding of presented business, business practices, and legitimacy, effectively communicating to internal and external partners recommended courses of action

•Demonstrates excellent due diligence and attention to detail when processing deals by emphasizing response time, the number of contracts processed, and the quality of contracts approved

•Obtains and reviews personal and business credit bureaus, evaluates creditworthiness, and performs credit investigations, as needed

•Reviews applications and supporting business documentation on accounts to determine the legitimacy and identify potential fraud

•Ensures compliance to CAN Capital lending policies, procedures, and guidelines

•Creates harmonious relationships between related teams to result in faster funding and positive merchant experiences

•Captures meticulous notes to support processing and decisions within the portal

•Works with a sense of urgency in organizing work and completing the underwriting process; takes ownership

•Resolves conflicts constructively; maintains and builds relationships both internally and externally throughout completion

•Maintains an up-to-date understanding of the growing marketplace, business needs, and competition

•Quickly adapts and incorporates changes to processes, goals, and deadlines into own work

•Works collaboratively with leaders across the organization, improving the organization's objectives to drive positive interdepartmental relationships, as well as supporting loyal broker and merchant relationships

•Performs other assigned duties, as necessary



Requirements


• Bachelor's degree with 3+ years underwriting experience preferred

• Experience gathering business information for due diligence using various tools required

• Experience reviewing, evaluating, and making risk-based decisions within an approved authority matrix preferred

•Ability to read a consumer credit report (Experian/Equifax/Transunion) required

•Ability to Perform Cash Flow analysis from bank statements and financial statements required

•Must have excellent written and verbal, digital and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to adjust to the demands of a hybrid office environment easily

•Strong problem solving, analytical, and negotiation skills required

•Intermediate skills in MS Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams

•Ability to maintain confidentiality required

•Ability to perform work in a dynamic, demanding, high-energy environment with an exceptional degree of organization required

•Exhibits self-discipline and self-motivation at all times

•Demonstrates characteristics such as flexibility, adaptability, responsive to coaching and feedback
