What You'll Do

As a Consumer Credit Underwriter, you'll play a critical role in helping SmartBank make responsible lending decisions that support our clients' financial goals while protecting the bank's credit quality. You'll evaluate consumer and private banking loan requests, analyze financial and credit information, and collaborate closely with Relationship Managers and lending teams throughout SmartBank's geographic footprint.

This position reports to the Consumer/Private Banking Credit Officer and requires strong analytical thinking, sound judgment, and a commitment to delivering exceptional internal and external service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze consumer and private banking loan applications, credit reports, and financial information to assess risk and determine creditworthiness.
  • Underwrite, structure, and monitor a variety of consumer lending requests.
  • Review loan requests for compliance with SmartBank lending policies and product guidelines.
  • Serve as a trusted resource to Relationship Managers and lending teams regarding SmartBank products, processes, policies, and culture.
  • Partner with loan officers to facilitate accurate and timely credit decisions.
  • Compile, interpret, and communicate financial and credit data to support lending decisions.
  • Assist in evaluating and recommending consumer lending products, programs, and policies.
  • Maintain accurate loan documentation and records.
  • Collaborate with Compliance and Credit Administration teams to ensure proper documentation and regulatory adherence.
  • Uphold all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including Bank Secrecy Act requirements.
  • Support additional departmental initiatives and projects as assigned.
What We're Looking ForEducation
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred.
Experience
  • Two or more years of consumer loan underwriting experience preferred.
  • Experience underwriting consumer and private banking loans is strongly valued.
  • Experience with the nCino platform is a plus.
