Job Description:
This job is responsible for working with Portfolio Manager(s) to establish and execute a risk based coverage plan for a specific portfolio or set of portfolios. Key responsibilities include leading examinations as an Examiner-in-Charge or Assistant Examiner-in-Charge, executing transaction reviews, secondary reviews of transactional testing completed by others, and issues management. Job expectations includes managing field work capacity for exams to ensure accurate and timely execution of Credit Review examinations including work product of new or less experienced team members.
Through examinations and monitoring, Credit Review provides an independent assessment of credit decisions and the effectiveness of credit processes across the bank's credit platform, identifies existing and emerging risks, and reports its findings to various stakeholders, including executive management, the Board of Directors or committee thereof, external auditors and regulatory agencies.
Position Summary:
The Commercial Horizontal Portfolio Specialist (PS) provides ongoing monitoring coverage of specific portfolios, products, and/or risks that span multiple commercial FLUs through interaction with senior business unit and Risk executives, preparation of quarterly Business Assessment Reports and Coverage Plans, and execution of credit transaction testing. The PS establishes working relationships with relevant FLU and Risk partners to facilitate ongoing dialogue of key issues and emerging risks. Additionally, this role can serve as Examiner-in-Charge (EIC) or Assistant Examiner-in-Charge (AEIC) for Credit Review examinations, which involves managing a team of examiners to ensure accurate and timely execution of exams.
The Commercial Horizontal PS will also have a process ownership role and will be responsible for driving continuous improvement across exam and monitoring processes to ensure they are efficient and effective. This will include reviewing existing workflows, identifying opportunities to reduce manual effort, enhancing consistency, and improving execution quality while partnering with key stakeholders across Credit Review to implement sustainable process enhancements. Additionally, the PS will play a key role in advancing the incorporation and adoption of AI-enabled tools and data analytics into existing processes to expand coverage, deepen insights, and strengthen Credit Review's overall assurance capabilities.
Responsibilities:
  • Participates in exam activities and/or periodically serves as an Examiner-in-Charge , Assistant Examiner-in-Charge or Examiner
  • Performs transactional testing of credit process execution for new and existing clients, providing direct and timely feedback on transactional reviews
  • Provides assistance on portfolio reporting as needed and engages in stakeholder discussions alongside the Portfolio Manager
  • Tracks and follows observations from exams and testing
  • Provides regulator updates on results, and responds to inquiries
  • Engages with Corporate Audit to ensure ongoing awareness of review activity, coordination, and ongoing risk assessment
  • Manages issues, including approval of issue severity ratings, action plans, ongoing issue status tracking, and oversight of issue validation
  • Establishes and executes risk-based coverage plans for specific horizontal commercial portfolios, products, and risks
  • Works with Credit Review management to identify needed process enhancements, including areas where the incorporation of AI-enabled tools can enhance process effectiveness and/or efficiency
  • Leads the development and implementation of process improvements

Required Qualifications:
  • 8 + years Extensive commercial credit-related experience, including experience in credit risk management, lending and/or regulatory agencies
