Job description

Position Summary:

The Cake Decorator is responsible for creating, assembling, and decorating high-quality Dairy Queen® cakes in accordance with company standards and customer specifications. This includes the preparation of soft serve and Blizzard® cakes, use of various decorating techniques and tools, and maintaining proper stock levels of decorated and ready-to-decorate cakes. The ideal candidate is creative, detail-oriented, and able to perform in a fast-paced environment while providing exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities:Cake Preparation & Decoration:
  • Prepare, assemble, and decorate cakes according to customer orders and Dairy Queen specifications.
  • Use various decorating tools including icing, gel, piping, airbrush, edible images, decorating kits, and lettering to meet customer expectations.
  • Ensure all products meet established quality, safety, and presentation standards.
  • Inventory & Display Management:
  • Maintain adequate stock of decorated cakes, including seasonal and promotional varieties.
  • Ensure all cakes are attractively displayed in the freezer case, fully stocked at all times.
  • Execute proper product rotation to ensure freshness.
  • Customer Service:
  • Take custom cake orders accurately and professionally, ensuring timely fulfillment.
  • Interact with customers in a friendly and attentive manner, offering samples and promoting cake offerings.
  • Collaborate with frontofhouse team members to support overall guest satisfaction.
  • Sanitation & Food Safety:
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cake decorating area and all related equipment.
  • Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines, including the PRIDE checklist and local health regulations.
  • Safely handle raw and finished products, ensuring proper storage and temperature control.
  • Teamwork & Communication:
  • Communicate effectively with team members and management regarding order volume, inventory needs, and guest feedback.
  • Support restaurant cleanliness and operations by assisting with general cleaning, stocking, and maintenance duties as needed.
  • Additional Duties:
  • Assist with backofhouse operations or other positions as needed to support restaurant flow.
  • Report all significant issues or concerns to management promptly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

    Qualifications & Requirements:Required:
  • Strong cake decorating skills including lettering, piping, airbrushing, floral and character designs.
  • Ability to follow visual instructions and replicate cake designs accurately.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be detailoriented, creative, and dependable.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work in varying temperature environments (freezers, kitchens).
  • Must adhere to all food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Preferred:
  • Cake decorator certification or formal decorating training is strongly preferred.
  • Portfolio showcasing past cake decorating work (may be required at the interview).
  • Prior experience in food service, bakery, or cake decorating roles.
