Job description

Health and Wellness/Gym Instructor

ย Residential & Day Services - Framingham

Salary Range: $54,000.00 to $56,000.00/year depending on licensure + $5,000.00 stipend for completing extended school year + sign-on bonus (half paid after 6 months of employment and half paid after 1 year of employment/pro-rated for part-time).

Wayside Youth and Family Support Network is hiring a full-time (40 hours/week) Health and Wellness/Gym Instructor, who is responsible for the planning and implementation of curricula consistent with Massachusetts Framework, and in a safe and supportive setting. The Gym Instructor is expected to act professionally and in a manner that is consistent with Waysideโ€™s core service values: resiliency, excellence and diversity.

What You Would Do:ย 

  • Implement physical education/health curricula (which has been approved by a Special Education certified teacher or administrator) for all students.
  • Provide challenging, motivating, relevant learning experiences
  • Teach classes by using various methods and materials to suit topic, IEP and/or learning style
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of all aspects of milieu expectation, programs, policies and procedures
  • Practice an approach to treatment that is creative and maximizes verbal intervention and processes with a client prior to the use of physical intervention tools
  • Provide progress reports, report cards, and other written reports as required and directed
  • Attend special events for the program, including graduation, holiday functions for the clients as well as any other event designated by the Principal. Attending events may be mandatory, but may not be part of a regular schedule, thus, becomes a secondary duty
  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to program and client information; communicate information to supervising staff as prescribed by program policy
  • Maintain first aid, CPR and TCI certification
  • Responsible for keeping in compliance with program and agency policies, standards and protocols
  • Attend supervision, staff meetings, agency trainings and meetings as assigned.
  • Responsible for any other duties as assigned by the Assistant Principal/Principal.

  • Dependability and persistence (i.e. excellent follow through on assigned tasks. ย 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Education or related field
  • Certification as educator in state of Massachusetts. We will consider individuals willing to pursue licensure if they have comparable experience in a related field.ย 
  • At least two years of experience with population.
