Job Description
Since 2000, Crum & Forster's Accident & Health division (A&H) has offered a diverse portfolio of specialty insurance and reinsurance products nationwide. We place a strong focus on product development and creative distribution methods, along with excellent client service and support.
The A&H Specialty Business Unit takes a forward-thinking, flexible approach to solutions that span a robust slate of products tailored to needs in Special Risk, International Travel Medical, retail and wholesale Travel and Occupational Risk. At year-end 2024, the SBU recorded $1,391M in gross premium written.
The Occupational Accident Profit Center is part of the Specialty Business Unit (SBU) within A&H and writes the following lines of business: Occupational Accident, Contingent Liability and Employers Liability, Non-Trucking Liability, and Physical Damage for Independent Contractors, with ancillary Workers' Compensation for employees. The target markets are the trucking industry and the Gig Economy.
This position will be responsible for supporting the underwriting team through Commercial Auto Non-Trucking Liability, Auto Physical Damage and Workers Compensation rating activities, including premium calculation, policy setup, endorsements, and issuance support for commercial lines business written within the group. This role will provide critical technical expertise in rating, policy preparation, and quality review to help ensure accurate and timely handling of both new and renewal business while remaining aligned with the strategy, commitments, and goals of the organization.
This is a hybrid role based in the greater Hartford/Glastonbury, CT area. If you have insurance experience or new to insurance, this is a great opportunity to come work for a Great Place to Work company.
What you will do for C&F:
  • Perform Commercial Auto Non-Trucking Liability, Auto Physical Damage and Workers Compensation related support functions
  • Rate and compute premium on quotes, policies, and endorsements
  • Rate Admitted and Non-Admitted Commercial Lines Business
  • Complete endorsement quality control on all lines written within the group
  • Complete auto state vehicle reporting through ALIRTs
  • Complete state filings: Form E, MD FR-19, etc.
  • Support policy setup, binding, issuance, and booking activities
  • Review policy data for accuracy and completeness across systems and applicable rating platforms
  • Process cancellations and non-renewals in systems and rating bureaus, as applicable
  • Support renewal business through the full workflow, including rating, quoting, binding, and booking
  • Work closely with the Underwriting team on new and renewal business
  • Assist with Workers' Compensation bureau-related tasks as needed
  • Handle ad hoc projects and other operational assignments as requested by management
  • Communicate internally and externally with agents and brokers regarding rating and policy processing matters

What YOU will bring to C&F:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
  • 2 to 4 years' of equivalent work experience or completion of an internship preferred
  • Commercial Auto and/or Auto Liability rating experience strongly preferred
  • Commercial Lines Rating Experience preferred: WC, NTL, PD, Auto, GL, Pkg, Admitted & Non Admitted
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools - Outlook, Excel, Word and Power Point
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
  • Strong demonstration of problem solving and analytical skills

  • High degree of organization to prioritize work and follow up on issues
  • Will abide by departmental policies and procedures, including authority levels, to comply with C&F's risk management controls.

The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $36,000.00 to a maximum of $67,800.00. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee's contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
