What is a creative project manager?

A creative project manager oversees all the elements of a creative project. These creative projects usually fall under the marketing department, but there are opportunities in other sections of a company. As a creative project manager, your job duties are to shape the ideas of the project, define clear goals and objectives in consultation with other departments, organize your team, and keep them on task. The creative project manager needs to maintain a balance between allowing the creative talent freedom to explore ideas while still making sure the team meets deadlines and creates a strong project, so you need excellent interpersonal and negotiations skills for this career.

How does a creative project manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

A Creative Project Manager serves as a bridge between creative teams, such as designers and copywriters, and other departments like marketing, product, and client services. They facilitate communication by clearly outlining project goals, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring everyone is aligned. Regular check-ins, status updates, and collaborative meetings are common, allowing the manager to address any blockers quickly and keep the project on track. This collaborative structure fosters a dynamic environment where feedback and ideas flow openly, ensuring that creative outputs meet both strategic objectives and client expectations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a creative project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Creative Project Manager, you need strong project management abilities, experience in creative industries, and typically a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with project management tools like Asana, Trello, or Wrike, and design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, is highly valued. Exceptional communication, organization, and leadership skills help you coordinate teams and manage client expectations effectively. These competencies are crucial for delivering high-quality creative projects on time and within budget while maintaining strong team collaboration.

Job description

At Elevation Church, we look to link arms in ministry with those who are passionate about stepping into their God-given calling. While we're a staff from all different backgrounds and walks of life, our mission is the same - to reach people with the Gospel. We're grounded in scripture and guided by our values, so check out our website (www.elevationchurch.org) to be sure you're aligned before you step into the application process with us, particularly paying attention to our Beliefs and our Code.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Partner with media, marketing, and creative teams to plan and execute high-quality creative assets across design, video, motion graphics, audio, and copy for platforms including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and more.
  • Manage creative projects from kickoff to completion by building timelines, assigning tasks, tracking deliverables, and keeping stakeholders aligned on priorities, changes, and next steps.
  • Support campaign execution by coordinating content captures, video shoots, production needs, timelines, and budgets.
  • Track project spending and available funds for content-related budget lines, ensuring responsible stewardship of resources.
  • Lead creative asset coordination for key events and initiatives, including Pop Ups, Elevation Nights, and other ministry moments.
  • Facilitate strong cross-functional collaboration by working with departments across the church, maintaining awareness of the church calendar, and identifying timely content opportunities.
  • Champion a healthy team culture by encouraging collaboration, unity, clear communication, and a positive work environment.
  • Help resolve challenges by promoting constructive dialogue, clarifying expectations, and aligning solutions with Elevation Church's values.
MUST-HAVES
  • Active participation in a church (we look for a lifestyle of inviting people to church, volunteering, generosity, and prioritizing community)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications, including Excel, Google Sheets, Drive, Docs, and related collaboration tools.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Strong time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and digital communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly across teams and leadership levels.
  • Sound judgment and strong decision-making abilities, capable of navigating competing priorities and solving problems proactively.
  • Thrives in collaborative environments, brings a team-first mindset, and is committed to continuous learning and personal growth.
  • Adaptable, resourceful, and able to pivot quickly as ministry needs and priorities evolve.
NICE-TO-HAVES
  • Experience working in a non-profit enviroment or ministry setting
  • Familiarity with Elevation Church
  • Experience in managing or caring for a team
  • Experience with social media
  • Experience with Slack and Asana
Day-to-Day:
  • We're a Sunday-Thursday work environment. Monday-Thursday, we're in the office (8:30AM - 5PM); on Sunday, we're supporting the weekend worship experience either directly in our roles or by choosing a weekly serving opportunity at one of our Elevation Church campuses.
  • There's a lot to accomplish each week, so we're pretty fast-paced. We're also not afraid to pivot a strategy or project quickly to meet the needs of the weekend - adaptability is a key competence for us.
  • Yes, we work hard. But we're good at playing hard, too. We're a creative staff, so there's no shortage of activities around our offices to have some fun!
  • You can't help but grow on our staff. You'll be around some incredible people. Professional development opportunities will be all around you, both in structured and unstructured ways.
  • We expect you to be disciplined in your spiritual practices - be in your Bible, spend time with the Lord in prayer, meditate on and apply the weekly sermon.
  • Bring your full self to every project, conversation, and initiative at hand.
Benefits:
  • Elevation Church pays 100% of every employee's medical benefits for full-time staff
  • 403b with 4% match
  • Dental & Vision benefits
  • Paid time off for life, vacations, and rest
  • Elevation Church subsidizes 6 sessions of counseling annually
