Job description

BJC is changing. Not what we believe - we’ve been fighting for religious freedom for 90 years, and we are not stopping – but how we show up. How we sound. How we look.

We are building something new, and we need a creative who wants to build with us.

It is a role for someone who has a point of view, moves fast, makes things that stop people mid-scroll, and understands that design is an argument.

You are probably early in your career and have a portfolio that is better than your resume. You are watching things - films, feeds, bands, designers - and they are making their way into your work. You are not waiting for permission to make something good – you are creating because that’s who you are.

What you will do

You own BJC's visual identity and national social media presence. You design graphics, produce short-form video, build out campaign visuals, and develop the content strategy that moves audiences from awareness to action. You conduct audience research. You coordinate photographers and videographers. You keep the visual world of BJC coherent, sharp, and alive across every platform and campaign.

To apply, send us three things

Your portfolio. A creative response to this prompt: introduce BJC to someone who has never heard of us, in any format you choose. A brief statement of your influences — what you are watching, reading, listening to. And the obvious, a resume.

No cover letter required.

Position Description:

Creative Producer

The Creative Producer is the primary creative engine of the communications department. This role produces the visual assets, multimedia content, and social media presence that carry BJC's narrative into public view. Working under the direction of the Communications Director, this role converts narrative strategy into content that is seen, shared, and understood — and builds the audience intelligence and research foundation that makes that content effective. The Creative Producer owns BJC's national social media presence and brings both creative execution and strategic thinking to every platform and campaign channel.

Visual and Multimedia Production

  • Design graphics, visual content, and advocacy materials that communicate BJC's narrative and campaign messages across platforms.
  • Develop and design social media visuals, infographics, and visual storytelling elements that translate complex issues into accessible, shareable content.
  • Develop and design short-form advocacy videos, social media video explainers, and motion graphics for digital platforms.
  • Edit video content from events and interviews for use across channels.
  • Write copy for visual assets, social media content, and campaign materials — ensuring language is clear, on-narrative, and appropriate to platform and audience.
  • Provide visual and multimedia program support for Team BJC as needed.

Social Media and Audience Development

  • Own BJC's national social media presence across platforms — managing content calendars, posting schedules, and channel-specific strategy under the direction of the Communications Director.
  • Build and grow BJC's social media audience — tracking audience behavior, identifying growth opportunities, and developing content strategies that move followers along a ladder of engagement from awareness to action.
  • Design and produce engaging content calibrated to platform, audience segment, and campaign stage.
  • Conduct audience research and data collection for social media platforms — reporting findings to the Communications Director to inform narrative and campaign strategy.
  • Translate narrative strategy into creative outputs — identifying opportunities to communicate complex ideas visually and simplifying messaging through storytelling across channels.
  • Produce social media explainers that make BJC's issues accessible and shareable to general and movement audiences.

Creative Operations and Cross-Departmental Support

  • Maintain visual coherence, brand consistency, and professional quality across all campaign and institutional materials — coordinating visual themes for major communications initiatives.
  • Coordinate photographers, videographers, and graphic designers as needed — managing media libraries, digital asset organization, stock imagery, and merchandise store product visuals.
  • Ensure the department has access to professional creative materials without production delays.
  • Work cross-departmentally to provide creative assets that support the communications needs of Legal, Policy, Organizing, and other teams as directed by the Communications Director.

The Creative Producer is expected to deepen expertise in visual storytelling, social media strategy, and audience development over time, with growth assessed through annual performance reviews in partnership with the Communications Director.

Other Information:

Who We Are

Rooted in a Baptist commitment to soul liberty, BJC (Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty) is building a movement toward a just society that cultivates and expands religious freedom for all.

Now in our 90th year, BJC brings our uniquely Baptist perspective to protecting religious liberty for all and defending the separation of the institutions of religion and government. We advocate for faith freedom for all in some of the most contentious and complicated moral and legal challenges of our day. Our positions cannot be easily categorized as on the political “right” or “left.” Instead, the stand we take is the one that, we believe, best supports everyone’s religious freedom. BJC coordinates and leads the Christians Against Christian Nationalism initiative. The BJC Center for Faith, Justice and Reconciliation provides educational opportunities to collectively expand and deepen our understanding of religious freedom with a broader justice lens.

BJC provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.

Work Location

BJC is headquartered on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., with staff working across the country. BJC has a hybrid work culture, with D.C.-based employees working at least 1-2 days in the BJC headquarters, with remote work available on the other days. This position is open to DC-based and remote applicants.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary will be based on BJC's base salary bands, which take into account experience and geographic working location. That band corresponds to a range of $45,000 to $65,000, for information purposes only. Eligible for all full-time staff benefits, which currently include platinum level health insurance plan and dental/vision insurance at no cost to employee and 50% cost for covered beneficiaries; participation in retirement savings plan with BJC contributing 13% of salary (no match required; fully vested on day one of employment); life insurance, long-term disability benefits, death-before-retirement payment, survivor’s annuity, and children’s allowance all provided at no cost; generous and flexible leave policy including paid annual, sick, and personal leave as well as all federal holidays paid.

Hiring Timeline and Application Requirements

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, but preferred application submission date is by July 31. The preferred start date is no later than September 1, 2026.
