Job description

YouTube Video Editor

Icon Global Media

Long-form storytelling, YouTube-native editing, and post-production execution for Iconโ€™s YouTube division.

Location: Frisco, TX

Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Lead Editor

About Icon Global Media

Icon Global Media (โ€œIconโ€) is a media company and creative studio built to power the worldโ€™s most impactful brands, talent, and intellectual property.

We operate at the intersection of culture, sports, and storytelling, delivering full-scale services across six divisions: Creative Studio, YouTube, Social Media, Design, Brand Management, and Marketing. We work with high level clients including top athletes, global brands, and professional sporting associations. We bring together creative strategy, world-class production, and a deep expertise in digital media, brand strategy, and marketing, all under one roof.

Our mission is simple: build iconic brands for the digital era.

The Role

The YouTube Video Editor is responsible for editing high-performing content for Iconโ€™s YouTube division, including Bryson DeChambeauโ€™s channel and other client YouTube channels.

This is not a traditional editing role. We are looking for someone who understands YouTube-native storytelling, pacing, retention, audience psychology, and how to turn raw footage into videos people actually want to watch.

You will work closely with the lead editor, producers, strategists, and the broader YouTube team to build compelling, polished, platform-ready videos. This role requires strong technical editing ability, creative taste, sound judgment, speed, humility, and a constant desire to improve.

You should be comfortable handling foundational post-production work when needed, including organizing footage, syncing audio, building selects, managing project files, and preparing rough cuts. You should also be capable of more advanced creative editing responsibilities, including full edit passes, story structure, pacing, sound design, color correction, graphics integration, and final polish.

The right person lives and breathes YouTube. You study videos, editing techniques, hooks, retention curves, pacing, thumbnails, titles, formats, and audience behavior because you care about getting better. You are not just here to complete edits. You are here to help build channels.

What Youโ€™ll Do

YouTube Editing & Storytelling

  • Edit long-form YouTube videos from raw footage through polished final cuts
  • Shape videos around strong hooks, clear story structure, momentum, payoff, and retention
  • Build edits that feel native to YouTube, with strong pacing, reactions, tension, humor, emotional beats, and viewer payoff
  • Identify the strongest moments in footage and structure scenes around what will keep viewers watching
  • Understand the relationship between the title, thumbnail, opening hook, and video payoff

Short-Form Editing

  • Edit YouTube Shorts and short-form clips from long-form content, optimizing for vertical pacing, retention, and platform-specific viewing behavior
  • Identify strong moments, highlights, reactions, jokes, reveals, and quotable segments that can perform as standalone short-form content
  • Adapt long-form stories into short-form edits that feel intentional, not like random cutdowns
  • Stay current on short-form formats, trends, and editing styles across YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Instagram Reels, and other social media platforms

Post-Production Execution

  • Ingest, organize, sync, label, and manage footage, audio, project files, and assets when needed
  • Build selects, multicam sequences, rough cuts, full edit passes, and revision passes
  • Add on-screen graphics, visual effects, transitions, subtitles, tracers, music, sound effects, and other edit elements
  • Perform audio cleanup, leveling, mixing, and polish
  • Perform color correction and camera matching to ensure videos look clean, consistent, and professional
  • Prepare final exports, maintain clean project organization, and follow Iconโ€™s workflow systems, naming conventions, and post-production processes

Creative Collaboration

  • Collaborate with the Lead Editor, YouTube strategists, producers, and channel managers to improve each video
  • Bring strong creative ideas to the table and stay proactive instead of waiting for a task list
  • Offer thoughtful input on story structure, pacing, hooks, and viewer experience
  • Take feedback quickly, professionally, and with a solutions-first mindset
  • Adapt your style to fit the channel, talent, video concept, and performance goals

Performance & Improvement

  • Study YouTube analytics, retention graphs, audience behavior, and performance trends
  • Use performance data to understand what worked, what did not, and how future edits can improve
  • Stay current on YouTube editing styles, creator trends, sports content, challenge formats, and platform changes
  • Analyze top-performing creators and channels to understand what is working and why
  • Care deeply about the numbers, including views, retention, watch time, and overall channel growth

Quality Control

  • Review your own edits before handoff to catch errors, weak pacing, technical issues, and missed opportunities
  • Ensure audio is synced and clean, visuals are polished, graphics are accurate, color is consistent, and final exports meet the channel standard
  • Flag creative or technical issues early and bring solutions when possible
  • Deliver work that makes the team better, faster, and more confident in the final product

Who Weโ€™re Looking For

This role is for someone who is deeply passionate about editing and obsessed with YouTube.

You are not passive. You do not wait for instructions or simply complete a task list. You watch the footage, understand the story, make decisions, and bring ideas that make the video better.

You are detail-obsessed. You care about every frame, the pacing, music timing, color consistency, file organization, and the small details that separate good videos from great ones.

You are creatively confident, but not egotistical. You have taste and opinions, but you are not married to your own ideas. You can take direction, adjust quickly, and change styles when the video or channel requires it. At Icon, the best idea always wins, no matter who it comes from.

You are hungry to improve. You want to be around high performers, receive feedback, study what worked, learn from what did not, and make the next video better.

Most importantly, you care about the outcome. You want the channel to grow, the videos to perform, and the team to win.

Required Experience

  • 3-5+ years of long-form YouTube video editing experience
  • Strong portfolio or reel showing high-quality editing, storytelling, pacing, and polish
  • Experience working with multi-camera footage and large volumes of raw media
  • Experience working under deadlines in a collaborative creative environment
  • Experience working with teams and multiple stakeholders on a single project or video
  • Experience editing creator-led, talent-led, or personality-driven content

Required Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Strong understanding of YouTube pacing, retention, hooks, structure, and audience engagement
  • Strong storytelling instincts and ability to shape raw footage into compelling videos
  • Strong technical understanding of codecs, frame rates, proxies, exports, project organization, and media management
  • Ability to perform color correction and camera matching across multiple cameras
  • Strong audio editing skills, including music selection, sound effects, leveling, and cleanup
  • Ability to integrate graphics, text, effects, and basic motion elements into edits
  • Excellent organization, attention to detail, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to take feedback, move quickly, and improve through revisions
  • Self-starter who can manage time, prioritize tasks, and stay accountable without constant oversight

Preferred

  • Experience with sports, golf, challenge content, documentary-style content, or personality-driven entertainment
  • Experience working with top-tier creators, athletes, celebrities, or public figures
  • Familiarity with After Effects and basic motion graphics
  • Experience editing YouTube Shorts, TikToks, Instagram Reels, or other short-form content
  • Familiarity with YouTube Studio analytics, retention graphs, and performance analysis
  • Interest in the creator economy, sports media, and digital-first entertainment

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary: $70,000 - $85,000 USD

Benefits: Health, dental, and vision insurance available

Performance Incentive: Potential performance-based incentive structure tied to demonstrated value to the team, based on:

  • Quality and consistency of edits
  • Speed, reliability, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Contribution to video performance, retention, and channel growth
  • Creative input and improvement of story structure, pacing, and viewer experience
  • Ability to grow into greater ownership across the YouTube division

Growth & Long-Term Opportunity

Icon is building one of the most exciting YouTube operations in sports and entertainment.

This role is an opportunity to join a growing YouTube division at a company working with world-class talent, major brands, and some of the most-watched athlete-led content on the platform.

As the team scales, this role can grow into greater creative ownership, lead editing responsibilities, format development, mentorship of assistant editors, and leadership across future YouTube channels and digital properties.

At Icon, we always say, โ€œYou get what you put in.โ€ We are here to incentivize and reward amazing work, and we are looking for the right people to build with. We want to empower you to be your best. If you are looking for a team that will push you, invest in you, and grow with you, Icon is the right place to build.

The right person will not just edit YouTube videos. They will help shape how Icon tells stories, grows channels, and builds iconic brands in the digital era.
