Job description

Help Shape the Voice of an Iconic American Brand

For more than 175 years, Johnston & Murphy has helped generations look and feel their best. Today, we're evolving that legacy for a new generation through modern footwear, apparel, and accessories—and we're looking for someone who can help tell that story.

We're not looking for someone to simply make posts or follow a content calendar. We're looking for a creator and storyteller who can help turn a 175+ year-old American brand into a modern social presence people genuinely want to follow.

Someone who's naturally curious, loves finding stories, and sees content opportunities everywhere. Someone who can walk into one of our stores, spend time with our team, or unpack a new product and immediately think, "People would love to see this."

You'll help shape how J&M shows up every day—uncovering the people, products, craftsmanship, culture, and moments that make our brand worth talking about.

What You'll Do

You'll own content from idea to execution.

Some days you'll be filming behind the scenes at a campaign shoot. Other days you'll be interviewing store associates, styling products, capturing craftsmanship, covering an event, or jumping on a trend that fits our brand.

You'll create content that feels authentic, interesting, and worth sharing—not simply because it was made for social, but because there's a genuinely good story behind it.

You'll also help us build relationships with creators, customers, and partners who can amplify our story in ways traditional advertising can't.

You'll spend your time:

  • Creating photo and video content for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook, and whatever comes next.
  • Shooting everything from polished campaign moments to quick, spontaneous iPhone videos.
  • Editing short-form video with a strong feel for pacing, storytelling, and platform trends.
  • Finding interesting stories across our products, stores, associates, customers, and company culture.
  • Helping grow our creator and influencer community through authentic relationships.
  • Covering launches, events, campaign shoots, and behind-the-scenes moments in real time.
  • Working closely with our marketing and creative teams to bring campaigns to life across social.
  • Bringing fresh ideas to the table and helping shape what J&M looks and sounds like online.
  • Looking at what's working, learning from it, and making the next piece even better.

You Might Be a Great Fit if You...

  • Love creating content and are constantly thinking about your next idea.
  • Have experience creating social content for a lifestyle, fashion, retail, or consumer brand.
  • Can shoot, edit, and tell a great story without needing a large production crew.
  • Have a strong eye for photography, video, design, and visual storytelling.
  • Understand social trends but know the difference between chasing trends and building a lasting brand.
  • Have worked with creators or influencers and enjoy building relationships.
  • Are comfortable talking to people, asking questions, and finding stories others might miss.
  • Stay curious about culture, style, and what's happening online.
  • Have a portfolio that demonstrates your ability to create compelling, platform-native content.

Experience and Skills You'll Need to Have

    • 2–4 years of experience in social media content creation, influencer engagement, or brand storytelling—ideally within lifestyle, fashion, or retail industries.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Digital Media, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
    • Proven ability to create visually compelling content that drives engagement and earned media amplification.
    • Deep understanding of current social media trends, creator ecosystems, and community-building best practices.
    • Strong photo/video production and editing skills (Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Lightroom, etc.).
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
    • Passion for fashion, design, and creative storytelling.

    Even Better if You Have...

    • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, Lightroom, or similar editing tools.
    • Experience shooting both iPhone and professional camera content.
    • An interest in menswear, craftsmanship, design, or lifestyle brands.
    • Experience producing documentary-style or behind-the-scenes content.

    Why This Role is Different

Johnston & Murphy already has incredible stories to tell—from the people behind our brand and the products we make to nearly two centuries of craftsmanship.

What we need is someone who can uncover those stories and tell them in ways that feel fresh, relevant, and human.

This is an opportunity to do more than create content. You'll help build the personality of J&M online, experiment with new ideas, and shape how a new generation discovers and connects with the brand.

If you're excited by the idea of finding stories others might overlook, turning everyday moments into great content, and helping an iconic American brand write its next chapter, we'd love to meet you.

    Why You’ll Love Working Here

    • Be part of an iconic American brand that’s redefining modern style.
    • Work with a creative, passionate team shaping the next era of J&M.
    • Hybrid schedule with flexibility and collaboration built in.
    • Competitive compensation, full benefits, and employee discounts.

Please include a portfolio or examples of your work with your application.

Send us your résumé, portfolio, and a few examples of content that best represent your work. We'd especially love to see projects where you created something people genuinely wanted to watch, share, or talk about.

    #LI-JS2
