Position Specific Summary
The Corcoran School of the Arts and Design is seeking a creative, detail-oriented student to support the school's communications and marketing efforts. The Student Communications Assistant will work on a range of projects, including newsletters, social media, website content, and other communications initiatives. This position is ideal for a strong writer and creative thinker who is interested in storytelling, digital communications, marketing, or the arts and enjoys finding engaging ways to share the work of students, faculty, staff, and programs.
The Student Communications Assistant will work closely with the Corcoran's Communications and Marketing Manager to support ongoing communications projects and help identify and develop stories from across the school.
Responsibilities may include:
  • Drafting and editing content for student, faculty/staff, alumni, and other Corcoran newsletters.
  • Developing social media copy and assisting with planning and creating content for Corcoran social media channels.
  • Identifying potential stories, accomplishments, events, and other content to highlight across communications platforms.
  • Writing or editing short-form website content, event descriptions, profiles, promotional copy, and other materials.
  • Brainstorming creative approaches to promoting Corcoran events and opportunities.
  • Assisting with basic content organization, scheduling, and communications project tracking.
  • Helping maintain consistency and accuracy across communications materials.
  • Providing additional communications and marketing support as projects and priorities arise.

Standard Position Description
The student will provide assistance in management and planning for print, web, social media, and/or other digital content. Tasks may include: reviewing existing departmental websites and suggest edits, executing a marketing plan, website maintenance, updating and/or developing key materials and opportunities used to promoting departmental expertise and practices, editing or creating videos, and assisting in the management of social media channels, including writing and posting original content. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental/faculty needs.
