Job description

DataBank Holdings Ltd. is a leading provider of enterprise-class data center, cloud, and interconnection services, offering customers 100% uptime availability of data, applications, and infrastructure. DataBank's managed data center services are anchored in world-class facilities. Our customized technology solutions are designed to help customers effectively manage risk, improve technology performance, and allow focus on core business objectives. DataBank is headquartered in the historic former Federal Reserve Bank Building, in downtown Dallas, TX.
DataBank is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. Our work culture at DataBank does not discriminate based on actual or perceived race, creed, color, religion, alienage or national origin, ancestry, citizenship status, age, disability or handicap, sex, marital status, veterans' status, gender, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.
DataBank is seeking an Engineering Manager of Mobile and Automation to lead all mobile application engineering and to own DataBank's QA automation tooling strategy. This is a hybrid technical leadership role: you will lead React Native mobile development for iOS and Android, and separately own the test automation tooling and infrastructure that powers quality across engineering, built on Playwright. The mandate is shift-left quality at scale - your tooling team builds and maintains the robust automation infrastructure, so that product engineering teams can write and own their own test case automation on a reliable, shared foundation. You will model how DataBank works: Extreme Ownership, Put People First, Be Data Centered, and Collaborate Before You Escalate.
Responsibilities
Mobile Engineering Leadership
  • Own all mobile application engineering across iOS and Android built on React Native, setting architectural standards, coding best practices, and engineering governance with clear accountability for outcomes.
  • Own the end-to-end mobile release lifecycle: release planning, versioning, deployment governance, rollback strategies, and mobile distribution via iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play).
  • Drive mobile performance optimization (app load times, startup performance, crash-free rates) and scalable mobile architecture.
  • Partner with web frontend, UX and product teams to align on shared component strategy and a consistent cross-platform user experience where practical.

QA Automation & Tooling Strategy (Shift-Left)
  • Own the QA automation tooling roadmap, with Playwright as the core automation framework and foundation for engineering-wide test tooling.
  • Champion a shift-left testing strategy: build and maintain the tooling, frameworks, and conventions that let product engineering teams author and own their own test case automation, while your team owns the underlying infrastructure that keeps those tests reliable.
  • Design and operate the automation infrastructure required to run tests reliably at scale, including environment provisioning, flaky-test detection and quarantine, and test-health reporting and observability.
  • Own regression suite architecture: sequencing and prioritization of test injection within the regression suite, tagging and categorization strategy, and risk-based test selection.
  • Build and scale parallelized test execution to minimize regression run time while preserving reliability and coverage.
  • Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines (GitLab), including gating strategy, pipeline design, and fast feedback loops for developers.
  • Establish self-service standards, tooling, and documentation so developers can extend automated test coverage independently, without depending on the tooling team for every new test case.

Team Building & Talent Development
  • Lead and grow both the mobile engineering team and the QA automation/tooling team, attracting top talent and developing engineers and emerging leaders across both disciplines.
  • Put People First by creating clear expectations, coaching with candor, and helping teams navigate ambiguity while aligning engineering capacity with business priorities.

Quality, Metrics & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Establish and track a meaningful KPI framework across both domains: mobile (crash-free rate, app store ratings, release cadence, app performance) and automation (test coverage, flaky-test rate, regression run time, defect escape rate, MTTR for pipeline failures).
  • Leverage APM and observability tools (New Relic) alongside test-reporting dashboards to model Be Data Centered: using evidence to prioritize tooling investment, validate improvements, and make tradeoffs transparent.
  • Partner with Product Managers, Frontend(Web). API and Backend Engineering, DevSecOps, Security, and IT to align the mobile roadmap and test automation strategy with broader engineering priorities.
  • Model Collaborate Before You Escalate by resolving issues directly with cross-functional partners where possible, surfacing risks early, and representing mobile engineering and QA automation at the leadership level.

Required Qualifications
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years leading mobile engineering and/or QA automation/tooling teams in a management or senior technical lead capacity.
  • Hands-on expertise in React Native, JavaScript/TypeScript, and mobile release management (iOS App Store, Google Play).
  • Deep, hands-on expertise with Playwright (or equivalent modern test automation frameworks) and experience building and maintaining test automation infrastructure at scale.
  • Demonstrated experience designing shift-left testing strategies that enable developer-owned test automation on top of a centrally maintained tooling platform.
  • Experience with parallelized test execution, regression suite design, test sequencing and prioritization, and flaky-test management.
  • Experience with CI/CD (GitLab, GitHub Actions), including pipeline design for automated test gating.
  • Familiarity with mobile testing frameworks (e.g., Detox, Appium, Maestro) and DORA metrics.
  • Strong data-driven decision-making and excellent written and verbal communication skills with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related engineering field.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with APM/observability tools (New Relic, Datadog) applied to mobile performance and test infrastructure monitoring.
  • Background in data center, managed hosting, or infrastructure-adjacent technology environments where reliability, accountability, and customer impact are critical.
  • Cloud infrastructure and orchestration (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, K8S and Containers) for scaling test execution infrastructure.
  • Experience partnering on reusable design systems and cross-platform component strategy with frontend(web) and backend teams.

Why DataBank
  • At DataBank, you will build the automation foundation that lets every engineering team ship with confidence, and you will lead the mobile experience for a world-class infrastructure company. You will help define what great mobile engineering and QA tooling look like while working in a culture built on Extreme Ownership, Put People First, Be Data Centered, and Collaborate Before You Escalate. The right leader will care as much about how the team operates as what the team ships.
