Overhead Crane Cab Operator (2nd Shift)
Location: Akron, OH

Position Summary
BICO is seeking an experienced Overhead Crane Cab Operator to join our Akron, OH facility on 2nd shift. This position is responsible for safely and efficiently operating cab-controlled overhead (bridge) cranes to move heavy materials throughout the manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate has prior experience operating 20-ton or larger cranes, including tandem trolley crane systems, and demonstrates a strong commitment to safety, productivity, and teamwork in a union setting.
Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a cab-controlled overhead bridge crane to lift, transport, and position materials using magnets, hooks, and chains.
  • Safely move raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished products throughout the facility.
  • Load and unload trucks in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Review and prioritize production orders, ensuring materials are delivered to machines based on scheduling needs.
  • Coordinate precise crane movements by simultaneously operating levers, buttons, and pedals.
  • Conduct daily inspections of crane equipment to identify defects or maintenance needs.
  • Perform routine cleaning and assist in basic maintenance, collaborating with Maintenance and Supervisory teams as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with all company, OSHA, and union safety standards.
  • Communicate effectively with production teams, supervisors, and other operators.
Qualifications
  • 2–4 years of experience operating overhead cab (bridge) cranes in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proven experience operating 20-ton cranes or larger.
  • Experience working with tandem trolley crane systems required.
  • Strong understanding of load handling, rigging basics, and crane safety procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret production orders and work instructions.
  • Comfortable working at heights and in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented, union workforce.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in steel processing, heavy manufacturing, or similar industries.
  • Background operating hot-metal or high-capacity industrial cranes.
  • Familiarity with union work environments and structured work rules.
Work Environment
  • Industrial manufacturing setting with exposure to noise, heat, and heavy equipment.
  • Work performed primarily in a crane cab at elevated levels.
  • Must be able to maintain focus and precision during extended periods of operation.
