Our Craftsmen team includes one subsidiary, Schantz Manufacturing. Schantz focuses on custom manufacturing of concession trailers for the fair and festival industry.

Position Title: Project Engineer

Location: St. Charles, MO

Position Summary: The Project Engineer ensures the timely and efficient completion of projects to achieve cost and schedule objectives. Acts as a technical leader with responsibility for planning, organizing, and overall design and development of products for a wide range of custom mobile solutions including trailers, truck bodies, and shelters/containers. This position will interface with other engineering resources and the functional areas of sales, production, quality, and purchasing/materials.

  • Works closely with Project Management in capturing project goals, preparation of the project plan, customer change management, and development of the project dashboard to ensure projects meet schedule and cost expectations.
  • Create 3D model geometry and associated mechanical and A&E drawings.
  • Reviews technical project work prepared by others through the application of design reviews, advanced engineering principles and previous experience.
  • Provide fabrication and construction oversight.
  • Engineering lead for development of components and sub-systems.
  • Maintain elements of configuration control of the various interfaces involved.
  • Maintains engineering records in MO folder.
  • Assist in customer meetings, conference calls, and site visits, as required.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering or related field from an accredited institution.
  • 2 - 4 years project management experience in a custom engineering and manufacturing environment.
  • 2 - 4 years large assembly design and development experience.
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14.100 and reference standards, and AWS D1.1 and 1.2.
  • Proficiency in MSOffice applications.
  • Proficiency in Wrike, MS Project, or other project planning software.
  • Ability to travel and manage project at remote locations, as needed, is required (~3%).
    • Valid state driver's license and a clean driving record.
    • Demonstrate safe driving practices while driving company vehicles or when driving your personal vehicle on behalf of the company.
  • Must demonstrate a consistent and stable work history, along with strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Missouri Professional Engineering license.
  • 1 - 2 years custom truck, 5th wheel and/or drawbar, or RV design and development experience.
  • Working knowledge of IBC, IMC, IPC, NFPA 70, NFPA 101. Classroom training and certification.
  • Working knowledge of ASCE 7 dead, uniform and concentrated live loads such as wind, snow, ice, seismic, and roof / floor.
  • Training and certification in 6S and Visual Management.
  • Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS and AutoCAD or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in BIM using Autodesk Revit for industrial and commercial buildings experience.
  • FEA experience using SOLIDWORKS Simulation or equivalent.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting, standing, and walking in office, warehouse and manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to climb in and out of trailers, scaffolding and up ladders.
  • Ability to bend, lift, and position self to move about the office, as needed.
  • Required to stand, walk, and use fingers and hands.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close and/or color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ascend/descend on ladders and move around within custom mobile solutions.
  • Must be able to position self to move, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have the ability to hear and respond to auditory signals, distinguish tones and pitches in equipment, and use hearing protection during specific tasks.
