Craftsmanship Engineer
Location: Foster City, California (Onsite)
Employment Type: Contract
Role Overview
We are seeking a Craftsmanship Engineer to pioneer craftsmanship as a proactive approach in product development. This role will define craftsmanship in relation to the product nature and use-case, and develop objective, measurable, and plausible vehicle-level craftsmanship targets. The position contributes to product design and development to embed craftsmanship requirements and develops the necessary documentation for defining and tracking those targets.
Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a cross-functional activity to embed craftsmanship requirements as a proactive driver in product development from the early phases.
  • Collaborate with design, dimensional engineering, product development, manufacturing, and supplier quality teams to align on vehicle-level targets.
  • Participate in Grey-Zone, Cabin scent, Ambient Lighting, NVH targets, Active Sounds, and Color & Trim Development.
  • Drive a continuous improvement mindset, ensuring craftsmanship elevates brand perception and user trust throughout the product life cycle.
  • Report to the Director of Geometric Integration on a regular basis and escalate for decisions as required.
Required Qualifications Education: A minimum qualification of a Bachelor's in Product Design or an Engineering discipline is required. Experience: A minimum of 10 years of Craftsmanship Engineering experience in the automotive or transport industry is necessary. This includes a minimum of 5 years of experience chairing forums and navigating key decisions in the automotive or transport industry. Technical Skills: The role requires extensive knowledge of visual, tactile, olfactory, auditory, and functional quality to ensure harmony in all user touchpoints. Proven experience in the development of Target Documents, VR, virtual tools, physical artifacts, and measuring tools is also required. Strong communication and people skills are demanded for this role. Preferred Qualifications
  • A Master's degree is preferred.
  • A proven track record of mapping craftsmanship, defining objectives and tasks, and developing a plan with clear measurable deliverables at gateways is also preferred.
