Job description

Trauma Geriatrician

The Trauma Geriatrician provides specialized care for older adults admitted with traumatic injuries. This role focuses on optimizing outcomes for geriatric patients through comprehensive assessment, daily rounding, co-management and coordination of care across the continuum, from admission through discharge. The Trauma Geriatrician works in close collaboration with the trauma surgeons and subspecialty teams to meet the complex clinical needs of this population, ensuring integrated, patient-centered care.

The Trauma Geriatrician collaborates with the Geriatric Liaison to develop and implement protocols and care processes, and to evaluate and continuously improve the quality of care for geriatric trauma patients. Participation in research and outreach endeavors is supported and encouraged.

Responsibilities
  • Work with Trauma attendings in fostering a culture of collaboration
  • Ensure effective communication amongst medical, nursing, and administrative staff related to geriatric trauma care
  • Be involved in the assessment and treatment of geriatric trauma patients and provide consultative advice to other treating physicians
  • Develop, review, advise, and update policies and procedures as needed within Legacy Health as they pertain to geriatric trauma patients
  • Ensure that the Trauma Program's patients and their treatment plans are monitored through periodic assessments that include the review of patient compliance and performance relative to established plans of care
  • Actively participate in the Trauma Program Process Improvement and Patient Safety committee, which includes review of cases as requested by the program, providing commentary and expert opinion to identify Opportunities for Improvement, and providing feedback and education to the medicine team, and monitoring outcomes or data related to identified Opportunities for Improvement
  • Attendance of at least 80% of monthly Trauma Multi-Disciplinary CQI meetings
  • Attendance of at least 50% of bi-monthly Trauma Operations Oversight meetings
  • Actively engage in community partnerships and support Program outreach and marketing activities
  • Participate in geriatric trauma research at the Trauma Center, as applicable
  • Ensure that best efforts used to meet patient satisfaction standards
Qualifications
  • Approved residency in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
  • Board eligible or board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine or the American Board of Family Medicine
  • Certification added qualification in Geriatric Medicine
  • Medical license in Oregon
Licensure
  • MD or DO
  • Current BLS from the American Heart Association
