Job description

Overview
Do you have a passion for fitness and look to impact the lives of the older adult population? If so, our Well-Being programis seeking its next PRN employee-owner team member for our facility, Mennonite Memorial Home in Bluffton, OH.
This is an on-call/substitute position, which means work is offered on an as-needed basis. This role does not guarantee a set schedule and is not considered full-time or part-time employment. This position is on-site with no possibility for remote or hybrid work. The ideal candidate would be open to covering Naperville, IL and surrounding areas.
Position Summary:
As the Fitness and Wellness Specialist, you will work closely with the residents of the community to improve the overall quality of their life. Symbria's Well-Being program focuses on providing strategies, programs, and services to older adults, enabling them to prolong their independence. Our group exercise classes, and educational sessions are based on guidelines from the American College of Sports Medicine, the Centers for Disease Control, and the National Institutes of Health. We offer advanced artificial intelligence (AI) balance assessment technology and develop customized fitness programs to the needs of each individual participant.
Responsibilities
  • Provide education to residents and staff of client communities on the benefits of Symbria's Well-Being program.
  • Increase program enrollment by actively promoting Symbria's services.
  • Act as program liaison to designated client committees.
  • Any and all duties as assigned.

Fitness-Specific Tasks:
  • Complete enrollment and medical screening processes for each participant according to Symbria Well-Being Operating Standards.
  • Schedule and conduct Risk of Fall assessments, and CDC STEADI questionnaire.
    • These assessments are vital in identifying residents' current physical abilities.
  • Develop customized fitness programs for residents based on ACSM guidelines.
  • Teach/Provide standardized group exercise classes and specialty programs based on current ACSM/AHA guidelines and Symbria Well-Being Operating Standards.
  • Work with the Symbria Rehab therapy team to coordinate the transition to and from therapy and Well-Being.
  • Reassess participants on a semi-annual basis and provide ongoing feedback to participants to ensure proper interventions.
  • Where applicable, provide appropriate instruction and orientation to participants on proper use of center equipment.
  • Achieve/exceed Symbria's established performance benchmarks.

Qualifications
To perform successfully in this role, the ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily is necessary. The qualifications listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:
  • Minimum personal trainer or group instructor certification required: American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Health Fitness Instructor; American Council on Exercise (ACE), or National Association for Fitness Certification (NAFC).
  • CPR and first aid certification.
  • Strong communication, presentation, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient use of technology, including video conferencing; network, laptop, and tablet devices; and Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent customer service and relationship-building skills.

Qualifications Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in exercise physiology or related field.
  • Experience in teaching group exercise programs.
  • Experience working with older adults with demonstrated ability to improve their overall health and well-being.
