Primary Function
The Safety Trainer is responsible for developing, delivering, and managing comprehensive safety training programs for employees across Gregory Poole Equipment Company. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and company safety standards while promoting a strong safety culture. The Safety Trainer will also oversee the Safety Mentor Program, including mentor training, program execution, and ongoing management. In addition to regulatory training, this role supports statewide safety initiatives including the NC Department of Laborโ€™s โ€œStruck Byโ€ initiative and leads the development of proprietary safety curriculum designed to position North Carolina as the safest state in the United States.ย 

Essential Duties
Safety Training Development & Deliveryย 

  • Deliver instructor-led and hands-on safety training for employees at various skill levels.ย 
  • Conduct or arrange training in the following areas: ย 
    • CPR and First Aidย 
    • New Hire Safety Trainingย 
    • Blocking and Cribbingย 
    • OSHA compliance trainingย 
    • MSHA compliance trainingย 
    • Crane operation and rigging safetyย 
    • General and role-specific compliance and safety trainingย 
    • Customize training content based on job role, equipment type, and regulatory requirements.ย 
    • Maintain all training materials to ensure they reflect current regulations and company policies.ย 

Compliance & Regulatory Responsibilitiesย 

  • Ensure safety training programs meet or exceed OSHA, MSHA, and applicable federal, state, and local regulationsย 
  • Stay current on changes to safety regulations and industry best practicesย 
  • Support audits, inspections, and corrective action plans through effective training documentation and deliveryย 
  • Maintain accurate training records, certifications, and compliance documentationย 

ย Mentor Program Leadershipย 

  • Lead the continuous improvement of the Safety portion of the GP Academy Mentor Programย 
  • Train and certify mentors in coaching, hazard recognition, and safety leadershipย 
  • Collaborate with leadership to align safety expectations through the mentor program

Program Management & Continuous Improvementย 

  • Evaluate training effectiveness through assessments, observations, and feedbackย 
  • Identify safety training gaps and recommend improvements or new initiatives.ย 
  • Partner with academy instructors, managers, and safety leadership to align training with operational needsย 
  • Support company-wide safety initiatives and culture-building effortsย 

NC Department of Labor Initiative & Industry Relationshipsย 

  • Actively support the NC Department of Labor โ€œStruck Byโ€ initiative through targeted training, awareness campaigns, and curriculum alignmentย 
  • Partner with internal safety teams and external stakeholders to reinforce hazard awareness and prevention strategiesย 
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of Gregory Pooleโ€“branded safety curriculum aimed at reducing serious injuries and fatalities.ย 
  • Champion innovative, proactive safety education with the strategic objective of contributing to North Carolina becoming the #1 safest state in the U.S.ย 
  • Serve as a safety subject matter expert and ambassador representing Gregory Poole Equipment Company in statewide safety efforts ย 

Minimum Requirementsย 

Educationย 

Bachelorโ€™s degree preferred, will consider equivalent experience. ย ย 

Experienceย 

  • 3โ€“5+ years of experience in safety training, industrial safety, or related.ย 
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and MSHA regulationsย 
  • Experience delivering technical and hands-on safety trainingย 

Physical ย 

  • Ability to conduct hands-on training in shop, field, and classroom environments.ย 
  • Ability to lift, carry, and demonstrate safety equipment and training tools.ย 
  • Must be able to travel to company locations in NC, VA and SC as required for training delivery.ย 

Other

  • CPR and First Aid Instructor certification (or ability to obtain).ย 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage training programs and mentor initiatives.ย 
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and organizational skills.ย 
  • Crane operation and rigging training experience.ย 
  • Equipment, construction, mining, or heavy industry background.ย 
  • CHST, CSP, OSHA Authorized Trainer, or similar safety certifications.ย
