Job description

Job Title: Senior Quality Engineer

Location: Warren, MI

Employment Type: Full-Time


Overview

The Senior Quality Engineer provides advanced quality engineering support to ensure product quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction while optimizing quality-related costs. This role serves as a technical leader in production quality, new program launches, and customer issue resolution. The Senior Quality Engineer acts as a primary quality interface for internal teams and external customers and leads complex quality initiatives focused on problem resolution, continuous improvement, and support of high-volume, just-in-time manufacturing operations.


Key Responsibilities
  • Drive continuous improvement across production quality metrics, including RTY, RPPM, CPPM, SPPM, craftsmanship, warranty, and customer scorecards
  • Prepare, submit, and support PPAP packages for customer approval, ensuring internal alignment prior to submission
  • Lead customer and supplier quality issue resolution using structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, Kepner-Tregoe, 5-Why, etc.)
  • Conduct and approve Measurement System Analysis (Gage R&R, Bias, Linearity, Stability)
  • Develop, maintain, and update Control Plans, inspection plans, and containment plans
  • Support Manufacturing Engineering with PFMEA development, updates, and risk mitigation
  • Utilize customer-specific quality systems (e.g., Stellantis PRISM, GM PRR, Ford WERS, Honda NARS)
  • Perform capability studies and ensure compliance with special characteristics and customer deviations
  • Support continuous improvement of operational documentation and process controls
  • Apply advanced statistical tools and mentor team members on quality methodologies and best practices
  • Assess and approve post-SOP supplier PPAPs
  • Serve as a primary quality contact for assigned customers, coordinating communication and issue resolution
  • Support supplier Advanced Quality Planning (AQP) activities and deliverables
  • Respond urgently to customer issues, coordinating containment, sorting, and rework activities as required
  • Support quality execution in high-volume, sequenced, just-in-time manufacturing environments, ensuring rapid response and minimal disruption to production
  • Complete all required internal and customer-mandated quality training
  • Travel to customer or supplier sites as needed (approximately 10%)
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Quality Leadership
Safety & Compliance
  • Promote and support safe work practices in coordination with plant leadership
  • Support plant safety initiatives to maintain a safe, efficient manufacturing environment
  • Ensure compliance with IATF 16949 / ISO standards and customer-specific quality requirements
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Formal training in quality disciplines including IATF 16949, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, DOE, MSA, and Continuous Improvement
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and technical documentation
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong root-cause mindset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with standard quality and data analysis tools
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
Experience
  • 5+ years of Quality Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Automotive Tier 1 / Tier 2 supplier experience strongly preferred
  • High-volume manufacturing experience required
  • Assembly and/or welding process experience preferred
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team-based, fast-paced manufacturing environment
