Cpg Startup information

What is a CPG startup?

A CPG startup is a new company focused on developing, producing, and selling consumer packaged goods such as food, beverages, household products, or personal care items. These startups often introduce innovative products or business models to disrupt traditional markets and appeal to changing consumer preferences. CPG startups face unique challenges, including supply chain management, branding, and scaling distribution. Their success typically depends on agility, effective marketing, and the ability to adapt quickly to trends. Many CPG startups leverage e-commerce and direct-to-consumer channels to reach their target market.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CPG Startup founder or leader, and why are they important?

To thrive as a leader in a CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) startup, you need a strong understanding of product development, market analysis, supply chain management, and ideally a background in business or entrepreneurship. Familiarity with tools like inventory management systems, e-commerce platforms, and data analytics software, as well as certifications in areas like food safety (if applicable), are often necessary. Exceptional creativity, resilience, networking abilities, and communication skills help you navigate challenges, attract investors, and build strong teams. These skills are critical for driving growth, maintaining operational efficiency, and standing out in a highly competitive market.

What are some common challenges faced when working at a CPG startup, and how can new hires prepare for them?

Working at a CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) startup often means adapting to a fast-paced, ever-changing environment where roles may overlap and priorities can shift quickly. New hires may face challenges such as limited resources, rapid scaling demands, and the need to wear multiple hats—ranging from product development to marketing and sales support. To succeed, it's helpful to be proactive, flexible, and comfortable with ambiguity. Building strong cross-functional relationships and being open to continuous learning will help you navigate the startup landscape and contribute meaningfully to growth.

Job description

Brand Manager – Performance Marketing

Who We Are

Pilgrim’s is evolving into a scaled, branded portfolio in prepared foods, with significant investment and leadership focus behind it. This role sits at the center of that transformation.

You’ll be part of a team building brands like Just Bare and others, combining the speed and ownership of a startup environment with the resources and scale of a global food company. We are building new capabilities from the ground up, including how we approach performance marketing.

For the right person, this is an opportunity to:

  • Build, not inherit. Shape how performance marketing is done
  • Have real ownership and impact in a high-growth part of the business
  • Operate with both speed and scale. Entrepreneurial environment backed by meaningful investment
  • Help define how modern marketing works within a large organization

Who You Are

You are a performance-driven marketer who uses data to drive decisions and business outcomes. You are comfortable digging into campaign performance, identifying what’s working and what isn’t, and pushing partners to improve results.

You don’t just report on performance, you own it.

You have strong judgment, are willing to challenge thinking, and can translate data into clear, actionable recommendations that drive business impact.

How You Will Contribute

This role is responsible for driving the performance of our paid media investment and ensuring our agency partners deliver against business objectives.

From day one, you will:

  • Identify performance gaps
  • Recommend optimizations
  • Direct agency execution
  • Translate results into business impact

You will also partner across the organization to ensure performance marketing is fully integrated into how we build and grow our brands.

Responsibilities

  • Paid Media Performance & Agency Leadership (Primary Focus)
    • Own performance outcomes across paid media channels (Meta, Google, TikTok, programmatic)
    • Act as the day-to-day lead with agency partners, setting direction and holding them accountable
    • Analyze campaign performance and identify clear actions to improve ROI
    • Challenge agency recommendations and push for stronger results
    • Translate performance data into clear, actionable insights for internal stakeholders
    • Contribute to decisions around audience targeting, creative effectiveness, and investment allocation
  • Brand & Commercial Integration
    • Ensure performance marketing aligns with broader brand and commercial priorities
    • Partner cross-functionally (sales, finance, insights, innovation) to support integrated plans
    • Bring a performance lens into broader marketing and business decisions
  • Creative & Influencer Support
    • Provide input on creative effectiveness based on performance data
    • Support influencer strategy, execution, and measurement
  • Budget Management
    • Manage media budgets with a focus on efficiency and return
    • Partner on budget tracking and forecasting

Qualifications:

  • 4–7 years of experience in performance marketing, digital media, or related fields
  • Strong understanding of paid media platforms (Meta, Google, TikTok, programmatic)
  • Experience managing and directing agency partners, not just receiving reports
  • Proven ability to identify performance issues and drive optimization
  • Strong analytical skills (Excel, Google Analytics or similar tools)
  • Ability to translate data into clear business actions and recommendations
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills
  • CPG experience is a plus, not required
  • Can perform the functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • As a salaried position with the company, you may be required to travel at some point to other facilities, to attend Company events, or as a representative of the Company in other situations. Unless otherwise specified in this posting, the amount of travel may vary and the most qualified candidate must be willing and able to travel as business needs dictate.
