Cpg Procurement information

What is CPG procurement?

CPG procurement refers to the process of sourcing and purchasing goods, materials, and services needed by companies in the consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry. This involves managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, ensuring quality standards, and optimizing costs for items like raw materials, packaging, and finished products. Effective CPG procurement is crucial for maintaining supply chain efficiency, reducing expenses, and ensuring timely product availability in the market. Professionals in this field often work closely with suppliers, internal teams, and logistics partners to achieve business objectives.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in CPG procurement, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in CPG procurement often face challenges such as managing supply chain disruptions, balancing cost savings with quality, and maintaining strong supplier relationships. These challenges can be addressed by implementing robust risk management strategies, leveraging data analytics for better forecasting, and fostering open communication with suppliers. Continuous professional development and staying updated on market trends can also help procurement professionals anticipate and adapt to industry shifts.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CPG procurement professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CPG Procurement professional, you need strong negotiation skills, supply chain knowledge, and a background in business or procurement, often supported by a bachelor’s degree or relevant certifications like CPSM. Familiarity with procurement software (e.g., SAP Ariba), ERP systems, and supplier management tools is typically required. Excellent communication, analytical thinking, and relationship-building abilities set top performers apart in this field. These skills and qualifications are crucial for securing quality goods at competitive prices and ensuring a resilient supply chain in the fast-paced consumer packaged goods industry.

Job description

Full-Time

Dr. Squatch is hiring a Buyer at its Marina del Rey headquarters to keep materials flowing into a fast-growing scented products operation. Buying for a fragrance-forward brand means purchase orders that smell: fragrance oils, soap bases, packaging components, and cologne parts, each with its own suppliers, lead times, and minimums, the procurement math our MOQ coverage introduces.

About the Role

The Buyer executes purchasing against demand plans: cutting and managing POs across raw materials and components, tracking supplier confirmations and deliveries, resolving shortages and quality holds with vendors, maintaining cost and lead-time data, and partnering with planning and production on priorities when constraints bite.

Who Should Apply

Buyers with CPG, personal care, or manufacturing procurement experience; ERP fluency; and the vendor-management instincts to be firm and fair in the same phone call. Full-time in Marina del Rey.
