Job description
The Director of Clinical Pastoral Education's primary role is to lead the CPE program in alignment with and under the guidance of the Center for Chaplaincy, supporting its mission through intentional management, curriculum review and development, program compliance, partnership growth, teaching, and student development. The Director is considered an Associate Professor and is a contracted faculty role.
Faculty's primary role is to teach in their areas of expertise, maintain the integrity of course and instructional programs, and to ensure that their delivery is in alignment with the University mission and vision for the student experience. As such, faculty are responsible for creating an academic atmosphere of mutual respect and consideration for individual dignity. Faculty members may be asked to aid in the development of curriculum in the residential and distance education environments, as well as engage in research/scholarship or creative activity that varies depending upon the expectations of their respective college or school and any additional activities involving service to students and their professional discipline.
Faculty attain the rank of Associate Professor based upon scholarly and professional achievements subsequent to attaining the rank of assistant professor. An earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution in an area relevant to the faculty member's area of teaching or a terminal professional master's degree or evidence of outstanding contributions in the faculty member's professional or academic field (e.g., as recognized by one's peers, nationally) is required.
Associate Professors are contracted for 10, 11, or 12 months (24, 27, or 30 load hours, respectively). Release from contracted teaching load is determined each semester by the Dean, per the Liberty University Faculty Handbook.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESDevelop, review and revise LCPE curriculum aligned with standards with the Association of Certified Christian Chaplains (ACCC), the Spiritual Care Association (SCA) and the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) which meets Level I and Level II outcomes.
Develop and maintain effective curriculum for LCPE Educator program.
Continue to gain recognition of CPE units from chaplain board certifying entities like the SCA and APC/BCCI and build partnerships.
Maintain compliance that is in alignment with chaplain board certifying entities which includes data collection, clinical hours etc.
Have monthly check-ins with the educators and conduct reviews.
Attend conferences with board certifying entities, when possible, to continue building relationships and staying current with updates and standards.
Update the CPE handbook.
Collaborate with LCPE educators to review and revise Canvas assignments.
Review and approve all incoming LCPE student applications.
Strategically plan for the future of the program and adapting curriculum for the shifting needs of hospitals, hospices, and other clinical sites.
Continuing education: participate in ongoing professional development and contribute to research, publications and leading CEU's when available.
Serve as Academic/Professional advisor to all CPE students.
Provide oversight for Affiliation Agreements and Contract Administration for all Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) placements.
Ensure that LCPE students meet the minimum requirements for intensive, online, and group and individual educational supervision, direct clinical care, and total required hours for each semester.
Master of Divinity and Doctoral Degree from an accredited evangelical seminary.
Certified Educator through the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), the Institute for Clinical Pastoral Training (ICPT) or Clinical Pastoral Education International (CPEI).
Board Certification from the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) the National Association of Veterans Affairs Chaplains (NAVAC) the Spiritual Care Association (SCA) or the Association of Certified Christian Chaplains (ACCC).
Over 10 years of experience in chaplaincy and spiritual care.

Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's rank, contract length, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.
The position may also be eligible for comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and tuition assistance.
