WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION?
The senior accountant position will be responsible for analyzing and reporting on The Hartford's investment results. Primary responsibilities include supporting SEC reporting, credit loss reviews, and investment-related financial reporting. The position provides a macro overview of the investment portfolio with regular interaction with investment analysts, sector heads, finance leadership, and senior members of the HIMCO platform. Specific tasks include:
  • Prepare and analyze investment-related disclosures included in The Hartford's 10Qs, 10Ks, Investor Financial Supplement
  • Develop and support information delivery related to the invested asset portfolio, including additional financial reporting requirements and ad hoc requests
  • Assist in the quarterly credit loss review and yield update process. Analyze investment trends and market factors to inform discussions regarding loss expectations and quantitative cash flow modeling outcomes, including discussions with investment analysts and sector heads. Support materials presented to senior HIMCO and Corporate Finance leadership as part of the quarterly credit loss governance process.
  • Assist in evaluating market developments, valuation considerations, and accounting implications across a diverse investment portfolio.
  • Support a strong control environment through the execution, documentation, and testing of SOX controls
  • Drive process improvements and automation initiatives by leveraging the investment accounting system, data warehouse, TM1, A.I.-enabled tools, and other technologies
  • Assist in the research and implementation of new investment accounting guidance and disclosures

WHAT ARE THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION?
This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in the office (Hartford, CT) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, CPA or CPA-track a plus
  • 2+ years experience, Big 4 firm or industry-related experience preferred
  • Familiarity with GAAP accounting and a strong control mindset
  • Proven track record of taking initiative to research and resolve issues, with a desire to continue learning in a rapidly changing environment
  • Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills
  • Ability to react and successfully balance multiple competing priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment under strict time constraints
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$76,000 - $114,000
