What is a CPA?

CPAs, or Certified Public Accountants, are licensed accounting professionals who have met specific education, examination, and experience requirements. They are qualified to provide a range of accounting services, including auditing, tax preparation, financial planning, and consulting. CPAs must adhere to strict ethical standards and complete continuing education to maintain their license. Their expertise is highly valued in public accounting firms, corporations, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations.

What does a CPA do?

CPAs, or Certified Public Accountants, are accountants, business consultants, and financial auditors. They can handle any number of financial services, from corporate finance to tax preparation. Often employed by corporations and associations, CPAs keep track of the finances and are sometimes employed as Chief Financial Officers or finance managers. The goals of most CPAs relate to assurance services, and they aim to keep their clients informed to make better financial decisions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CPA?

To thrive as a CPA, you need a strong background in accounting principles, financial analysis, and compliance, along with a bachelor's degree in accounting and successful completion of the CPA exam. Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Excel, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is essential, and ongoing education or certification updates are often required. Strong attention to detail, integrity, and effective communication skills set outstanding CPAs apart. These competencies ensure accurate financial reporting, adherence to regulations, and valuable guidance for clients or organizations.

What are some common challenges CPAs face when working with clients during tax season?

CPAs often encounter tight deadlines, last-minute document submissions, and rapidly changing tax regulations during tax season. Managing multiple clients simultaneously can require strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks under pressure. Effective communication with clients is essential to clarify complex tax issues and ensure all necessary information is gathered on time. Being adaptable and detail-oriented helps CPAs deliver accurate results even in a fast-paced environment.

Employment Notice: This position is employed exclusively by Integrated Tax Advisors, an independent tax company affiliated with Fragasso Financial Advisors. Although this role works closely with Fragasso Financial Advisors' advisors and clients, this position will be an employee of the affiliated tax firm.

This is a unique opportunity to help build and lead a growing tax planning practice while collaborating with an established wealth management firm serving affluent clients. You will work directly with financial advisors to provide proactive tax strategies that will become part of each client's overall financial plan. If you enjoy solving complex tax issues, working collaboratively with advisors, and helping shape the future of a growing tax practice, we would love to talk with you.

What You'll Do

High-Net-Worth Tax Planning & Preparation

- Lead tax planning and tax preparation services for select high-net-worth individuals and families

- Identify opportunities to reduce tax liabilities through proactive planning

- Develop tax strategies related to:

  • Investments and capital gains
  • Retirement income
  • Roth conversions
  • Charitable giving
  • Estate and wealth transfer planning

- Deliver thoughtful recommendations that improve clients' overall financial outcomes

Partner with Financial Advisors

- Collaborate closely with financial advisors to integrate tax planning into comprehensive financial plans

- Participate in client meetings when tax expertise adds value

- Coordinate with advisors on tax-efficient planning strategies

- Monitor and advise on planning opportunities including:

  • Capital gains management
  • Income tax bracket optimization
  • Roth conversion strategies
  • Medicare IRMAA planning
  • Tax-loss harvesting coordination
  • Retirement distribution planning

Help Build the Practice

- This role offers more than client work. You will help develop the firm's tax planning capabilities by:

  • Creating scalable tax planning workflows
  • Developing planning frameworks
  • Improving advisor collaboration
  • Building client-facing planning tools
  • Establishing best practices for integrated tax planning

Qualifications

We are looking for an experienced professional who combines technical expertise with excellent communication skills and an entrepreneurial mindset.

Requirements include:

  • Active CPA license in good standing
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 8–15+ years of tax planning and tax preparation experience
  • Extensive experience serving high-net-worth individuals and families
  • Ability to explain complex tax concepts in practical, client-friendly language

Preferred Experience

- Master's degree in Taxation or Accounting

- Working alongside wealth management firms, financial advisors, or family offices

- Developing tax planning processes or building a tax practice

- Advising clients regarding:

  • Closely held businesses
  • Liquidity events
  • Concentrated stock positions
  • Equity compensation
  • Estate and trust tax matters
  • Significant charitable planning
  • Tax-efficient retirement withdrawal strategies

Why This Opportunity Is Different

This position offers the opportunity to:

- Work with an established wealth management firm serving high-net-worth clients

- Become the lead tax resource supporting integrated financial planning

- Enjoy a better work-life balance than typical tax firms, including a hybrid remote work opportunity

- Build and influence a growing tax planning practice

- Work collaboratively with experienced financial advisors

- Focus on proactive planning beyond annual tax preparation

- Help shape the future direction of an expanding affiliated tax firm

Employment Structure

This position is employed by Integrated Tax Advisors, a tax company affiliated with Fragasso Financial Advisors.

- The individual selected for this position will:

- Be employed by Integrated Tax Advisors

- Provide tax planning and tax preparation services through that entity

- Maintain all required CPA licensing and professional responsibilities through the affiliated entity

- Collaborate with advisors at Fragasso Financial Advisors in serving shared clients
