Job description

Position Summary

The Intermediate Accountant is a designated accounting professional who supports the Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, Director, and CFO in the daily operation of EnerStar Solutions' accounting and financial reporting functions. This role is responsible for performing month end accounting activities, account reconciliations, financial analysis, and supporting budgeting and reporting processes.


This position is designed as a development role within the Finance & Accounting team and serves as a key step in the professional accounting career path. The successful candidate demonstrates strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, continuous improvement thinking, and a commitment to providing accurate and timely financial information to support business decisions.


Core Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist the Senior Accountant with month end and year end accounting activities.
  • Prepare and reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies.
  • Prepare recurring journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries.
  • Assist with month end financial reporting packages.
  • Track and maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
  • Analyze financial transactions and identify opportunities for improved accuracy and efficiency.
  • Support inventory reconciliations and cost tracking activities.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Support audits and provide documentation as required.
  • Collaborate with operational departments to gather financial information and reporting data.
  • Maintain documentation and internal controls to ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Assist with accounting process improvements and automation initiatives.
  • Provide support and guidance to Junior Accountants and Accounting Technicians when required.
  • Stay current on accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.


Education & Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Progress toward CPA designation or active enrollment in the CPA program.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel occasionally as required.

Preferred

  • CPA designation in progress with successful completion of core CPA modules.
  • Experience working in a multi entity or service based environment.
  • Experience with inventory, equipment rentals, or project accounting.

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Experience preparing account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reports.
  • Experience participating in month end close processes.
  • Experience with ERP or accounting software systems.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of ASPE and/or IFRS.
  • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables and data analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize competing deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the finance team.
