Overview

Cox Fleet by Cox Automotive has grown to become one of the largest fleet maintenance companies in the country, specializing in on-site mobile maintenance and repair services for light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and trailers. We also service customers via 50+ nationwide service centers, offering accident repair, painting, refurbishment, and heavy mechanical repair, supported by a 24/7 in-house call center for scheduled and unscheduled services.

Cox Fleet by Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Mobile Diesel Technician Level II.

Responsibilities
  • Perform licensed DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and follow-up repairs in a mobile/field environment.
  • Conduct minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment including electrical, braking, cooling systems, starters/alternators, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, and related components.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various systems and components using diagnostic tools and equipment; conduct road tests to verify proper operation.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions; identify problems and evaluate information to generate effective solutions.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and operate the company-issued service truck; perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate the service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre-/post-trip inspections.
  • Collaborate with clients to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve issues, and meet expectations.
  • Manage concurrent tasks with prioritization of work and time allocation; use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work according to company standards; upload photos of work performed, parts used, and findings on RO using the TRAIT app and an iOS device; complete DOT forms and other required documentation promptly.
  • Work independently with a managed daily schedule and maintain a high level of productivity within standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed to complete repairs.
  • Communicate with management and support teams to obtain approvals on estimates, purchase order numbers, and RO findings notes.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety, health, environmental policies, and regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Maintain the service truck and perform safety checks and daily pre-/post-trip inspections.
Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma/GED with 3 years’ related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Alternatively, relevant degrees or certifications beyond a HS diploma/GED in related disciplines, or 5 years’ related experience.

Possess and provide a set of hand tools necessary to perform the job duties.

Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.

This position follows Department of Transportation (DOT) FMCSA regulations. Candidate must successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.

A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical. If four months or less remain, a DOT physical will be required.

Due to interstate operating authority, candidates must be at least 21 years old. A valid driver’s license is required; candidate must be able to obtain and maintain their Driver Qualification File.

Certifications

Required Certifications or Obtained within 18 Months: ASE T8 (PMI)

Preferred Certifications: ASE T3 (Drivetrain), T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems), T7 (HVAC), T8/609 certifications*
