Job description

Company Overview: Through its three divisions (Carlin Combustion, Hydrolevel Co. and Cowles Products), Cowles Operating Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of C. Cowles and Company is a leading manufacturer in the heating industry (oil, gas and biofuel burners + safety controls used in residential, commercial and industrial heating) as well as extruded plastic products (for automotive applications, medical applications, and more). Cowles Operating Company is located in North Haven, Connecticut in a modern 220,000 sq. foot facility housing our factory, laboratory and office space. Cowles Operating Company’s divisions maintain leadership roles in the industries they serve.
Summary: Under the general supervision of the Quality supervisor, the Quality inspector ensures products and processes meet Cowles quality standards by inspecting production materials and processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Quarantine and troubleshoot all line reject material and assemblies.
  • Test and diagnose field returns by following the company’s warranty procedures.
  • Maintain the warranty log database.
  • Incoming inspection of selected purchased material.
  • Random quality audit of residential oil burners to assess product quality.
  • In-process production line inspection as necessary.
  • First Article inspection of welding department parts prior to production startup.
  • Make suggestions for efficiency or quality improvements to production processes.
  • Recommend repairs or replacement to defective or worn assembly equipment.
  • Utilize tools like calipers, gauges, micrometers, and electronic inspection equipment to measure and test products.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following company standards and procedures.
  • Perform other assigned duties as directed.
Education/Experience:
High school diploma and minimum of 1-year previous experience in a similar role.
Physical Demands:
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision and depth perception. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel;
