As a court advocate, you perform a specialized kind of social work—your duties center on advocacy and support for victims of crime or abuse. In this career, you may work for a government agency or a nonprofit organization. Depending on your skills and experience, you may choose to specialize in working with families or as a child advocate. As a court advocate, you must become familiar with the local programs and services available to victims of crime or abuse, and be able to articulate to victims the benefits of engaging with these services.
| Aspect | Court Advocate | Legal Advisor |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Law degree, Bar Council registration | Law degree, often with specialization |
| Work Environment | Courts, legal proceedings | Offices, client consultations |
| Employer & Industry | Government, courts, legal firms | Corporate, law firms, consultancy |

While both Court Advocates and Legal Advisors hold law degrees and work within the legal industry, Court Advocates primarily represent clients in court and handle legal proceedings. Legal Advisors focus on offering legal counsel and strategic advice outside the courtroom. Their roles complement each other but differ in their daily responsibilities and work environments.

This opportunity is for an attorney who wants more than a place to manage cases and meet billable expectations. It is an opportunity to join a team where mentorship continues beyond the early stages of a legal career, attorneys collaborate rather than operate in silos, and client service is grounded in responsiveness, practical guidance, and thoughtful resolution.
The ideal candidate brings at least five years of North Carolina family law litigation experience, sound legal judgment, and a sincere commitment to helping clients move through challenging circumstances with clarity and confidence.
What Makes This Opportunity DifferentExperienced attorneys still deserve opportunities to learn, exchange ideas, and feel supported.
This firm is known for creating an environment where attorneys share knowledge, collaborate on strategy, and recognize that strong client outcomes are supported by a strong internal team. You will have the independence to lead your matters while also having access to mentorship, perspective, and support when complex issues arise.
The goal is not conflict for the sake of conflict. The firm takes a resolution-focused approach—helping clients understand their options, make informed decisions, and pursue a path that reflects their priorities while remaining fully prepared to advocate in court when necessary.
The Impact You’ll MakeAs a Family Law Attorney, you will guide clients through some of the most personal and consequential moments of their lives. You will combine skilled advocacy with practical counsel, helping clients understand both the legal process and the decisions before them.

What You’ll DoManage family law matters from initial consultation through negotiation, mediation, hearing, and trial
Represent clients in matters involving divorce, child custody, child support, alimony, equitable distribution, domestic violence, and related family law issues

Substantial experience managing family law matters with appropriate independence
Courtroom experience handling hearings, motions, and trials
Strong knowledge of North Carolina family law statutes, procedures, and local court practices
Experience with negotiation, mediation, discovery, and trial preparation

Commitment to resolution-focused representation without compromising effective advocacy

Look for practical solutions while remaining prepared to litigate when needed

Enjoy collaborating with colleagues and contributing to shared success
